It's locked in just like any other receiver hitch should be. Not a problem. The shakle can be taken, but I've been using these things for years and haven't lost one yet. Besides, a wheeler should probably have a couple of spare shakles anyway.

If you get a metal or aluminum cover, they normally come with a hitch pin that you can lock and ensure no further theft happens...

I thought someone had stolen mine too but, in the spring it popped out of a snow bank by my driveway. :)

I noticed mine was missing after I got the suspension mod completed at the dealer. I would have gone back but it was too far of a drive.

No wonder they call it the stealership

Not to hijack the thread - which seems to have aleady been settled - but are people really stealling catalytic converters?!?

They hit parking lots around here and can take a converter off a car in about 15 seconds with a cordless sawzall. They especially love the higher pick up trucks.

I have a locking hitch pin... If they can get it off before my Louisville Slugger smacks 'em in the head... good luck - you earned it.

My Master locking hitch pin doesn't fit on my Taco's hitch - the hitch os too wide for the lock part to slide on far enough to engage. I think it's cos the Taco's hitch has a strengthening 'sleeve' around it. What brand is anyone else using?

I am honestly amazed that my rubber hitch cover has stayed on this long... My old 2.7L lost it's cover in the first 2 weeks!

IF anyone is keeping a poll on the lost/stolen hitch cover. I've had one of both. First was stolen. I came home one day and noticed it missing as I rode up on my bike. I left my truck out for a few days. The second I lost going down an incline where the hitch hit the dirt coming off the incline and pulled it out. Both were freebies from the dealer. I trimmed the bottom of the current one to avoid losing while off road.
