    I use a Thule Helium Aero 2-bike rack. I bought it for a Subaru Outback about 2 years ago and was worried that it wouldn't work with my new '17 TRD Sport DC LB 4WD, which replaced the Outback. Here's what I like about it: 1) aluminum & light weight, but very solidly built;
    2) the rack is very solid in the hitch receiver and the bikes are very stable on the rack; there's just no motion from the rack or bikes when in motion; 3) it locks into the hitch receiver and there is a built-in cable lock to secure the bikes to the rack; 4) and, finally, when I tilt the rack down with the bikes on it, the tailgate can be fully dropped, but just barely. Although I don't like obscuring the taillights with a hitch-mount rack, I will use it when the bed is loaded with other stuff.

    Now I'm looking for an in-bed rack for a couple of bikes when I've got enough room in the bed for the bikes and whatever gear is needed.

    Here's my solution: have an old roof mount bike rack, but found it too difficult to hoist my bike on the roof, so I mounted it to a hitch cargo tray. IMG_9839.jpg

    I can open the tailgate and camper with the bike installed (not opened in pic, but you can see it's possible) IMG_9837.jpg

    This tray model folds up when not in use, which is nice IMG_9840.jpg

    Hitch tightener and locking pin and ready to go!

    I have the new NV 2.0 and it does not work. The sherpa above is the new sherpa 2.0 and it does work. The sherpa cannot be expanded to 4 bikes.

    I have the softride dura. It rotates back, while loaded with up to 5 bike, from the tailgate enough to open to about 1 or 2 degrees from parallel to ground. The tailgate rests just slightly on the rack arm (no pics on Taco sorry. But the website shows it on a Silverado). I wouldn't sit on the tailgate, but you can easily lean in and access whatever is needed.

    You would think KUAT would address this.

    The swagman g2 2 bike rack folds just far enough out of the way for a tailgate to drop. It's the best bang for buck on the market.

    The new Yakima DrTray clears in all positions - highly recommended. I don't have any pictures at the moment but can take some if anyone is interested.

    So stock.
    If you don't mind, pictures would be super helpful. I just discovered my Kuat NV is not going to work on my new 3rd gen.

    Go with the 1UpUSA. It clears my tailgate, has great utility, and folds up for storage. I have owned a few hitch racks and this by far has the best engineering and design.

    .... ^^^ ....Nice setup .... I always liked the extra front mounted hitch too.

    Was it just a "bolt on" ??

    FWIW ... REI has a good price on bike racks once a year with that 20% Off membership coupon and you can get another discount on top of that too.
