All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I was looking at my rusty hole as well. Yep time for some attention ;)

Must not have been around hitches much I have seen them stuck in numerous receivers to the point you could pick the truck up with a crane with the pin out. Ya got to take them out once in awhile and clean them up this is not a Tacoma thing.

I'm surprised they aren't dumping it on the roads already. It was down to 34 degrees in Shamong a couple of nights ago. I'm close to the coast so the ocean is keeping us warmer- I don't think we've been below 50 yet.

Not an issue on the west coast (thankfully). Plus I don’t leave a hitch in my receiver unless I’m towing or moving a trailer.

I keep my receiver hitch inside the truck till ready to use it...have a receiver plug with a rubber seal that compress's in the trailer hitch with the pin to keep any water or crap out. Biggest issue is in the winter having to pour hot water sometimes on the hitch to unfreeze the hitch plug.

It's steel, it rusts. That's a high wear area, meaning the paint gets warn off. Just sand it when you see this then re-paint with either cheap spray paint or a paint over rust product that will last longer.

Here I was thinking Jeep as in Wrangler and instead it's the first car for Rachel from Rhode Island.

No. I'm bitching about Toyota's protective coating AGAINST rust coming off. In literally less than a year.

    Fuck off. Troll somewhere else.

This Jeep has done more wheeling than 90% of Wranglers out there.

Yeah, but I rather not look like a line cook at Denny's with a bunch of empty Fireball mini bottles in the back, and a few cashed out American Sprit cig packs on the floor.

Dude, I gave you a valid answer back on page 1 but you had to know you would get these kinds of answers with your question.
Everybody knows paint wears off when two pieces of metal rub together.

No. I figured people would educate me on weather flaking paint is something Toyota would take care of on my $32k purchase with them or not. The answer was no. It's my first vehicle with a warranty. Everything else I ever owned (2 vehicles, 3 jet skis and 5 trailers) has been worked on with my own bare hands.

    Understood.
For future reference, the receiver on any vehicle, not just Toyotas, will rust if you put a hitch in it and use it. I've had over 30 vehicles of many different makes and models and every one of them that had a hitch that got used also got touched up quite often. I have a can of black spray paint for that and my utility trailer. When I see it rust, I just scuff it up and spray the parts that need it. Do it once a year or so.
Also, Tacomaworld is a place to hang out, joke around and maybe learn something. If you ask a question, you will get some good answers, not so good answers and a lot of joking answers. Very seldom are we serious, especially on Fridays.
Basically, don't get butthurt if people talk shit.
    Have a good weekend!
