Going to get one of these. Want to know which ones you all like better and why? I think hotshot has a plug and play kit that doesn't require removing taillights. Diode dynamics seems pretty simple as well. So which do you all prefer?

I like the function that the DD has but can be stolen in seconds, no security. - correction you can have a hitch pin or not

I have the BDS1 mounted with a locking hitch pin. Not as many functions but works great for a reverse light.

I watched a video and it snaps in

I might have to double check

Edit: I guess you can. drill and modify like the BDS1 pod

Yeah, hard to tell from the pics. Looks like you could pop it out, not sure what inner tabs or security is inside?

    I have arrived! @Bkicks333

So the installation of these kits is the same. We custom built the universal HitchPod harness that you've linked to. When DD came out with their Hitchmount pod they chose to build a harness that essentially mimics ours (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all)! So both options will snap right into the existing trailer connections on a new Tacoma with no trouble.

As for which one is "better" it's kind of whatever brand you're into! We love our Hitchpods, but also know that the C1R brings some new functionality that the S1 simply doesn't have. As for the security part of it, DD has released that video that is them cutting off the tabs and making a McGyver locking hitchmount. The Hitchpod, since it needs to be drilled into, lends itself well to being locked into place organically. I will tell you this as well... It's a little ways out just due to backlog of other items, but we are working on our own DD Hitchpod which will be able to leverage the same C1R light and their harness. It can be transferred over easily, and will also be secure like you'd come to expect from us. If you purchase a DD Hitchmount light now, and decide you want our pod we'll cut you a good deal on one if you've already purchased from us.

If you do decide to pick up the DD version though I encourage you to pick that up from us here at Hotshot Offroad! We've got those bad boys too.

would go with DD as it serves two purposes. a 3rd brake and backup is kinda cool.

DD hitchpod with the C1R is particularly useful if you have a softtopper since the 3rd brake light gets covered by the top, and you can still have another brake light that also flashes and acts as a reverse light.

    PLUSSSS it is cheaper overall

I wonder if DD will assemble a C1R for the 2nd Gen without a 7pin Tow connector and the 3rd Gen without a towing connector. (SR)
(Reverse, Stop, Tail, Stop) are easily accessed on the tail light assemblies connector.

Did you ever buy the S1 and Hitchpod? I just took one off my truck (work/scene light) in perfect shape, I can PM you about it if interested. It’s a great setup I just wanted to recess lights into the bumper. Definitely would 100% recommend anything Baja (or Rigid) over DD.

Eh, too much to want to divulge here but in short I had a bunch of problems with several of their products (various bulbs, SS3 Max fogs). I wanted to like them but nothing I bought from them worked well for me beyond surface level.
