hkb electronics alternator voltage booster

anyone install an hkb electronics alternator voltage booster? instructions say installs in place of "alt-s" 7.5 amp fuse. but i can't find it. am i missing something?

 

I’m curious as to what you would use it for? Never heard of a voltage booster before.

 

Same issue, the directions are unclear. I got one of their “income booster” kits, says install in “wallet 2-c” but I only have one wallet, and none of the sleeves are labeled.

 

running dual batteries and they're agm so i was hoping to try avoid having to worry about reconditioning the batteries or topping them off every couple weeks.

Most expensive diode I ever heard of for a low current application. A diode for those who are not versed in electronics is a semiconductor device that permits current to flow in one direction only. The trade off for this behavior is a slight voltage drop typically 0.5 to 0.7 volts. By placing this device in the voltage sense line of the alternator provides feedback to tell the alternator to raise it's output voltage by the same amount as the drop across the diode. So according to charging theory, this should make the battery charge faster but possibly at the risk of overcharging the battery.

Yes. Talked to them directly. They said it won't work on a 3rd gen.

The 3rd gen alternators have a brain on them and are too smart for such a simple fix. Also, that fuse isnt on the, like the second gens. Tried this path already.

 

So no way to spoof the 2017+ alternator?

Trying to find an option in techstream to change alternator voltage output, but not having any luck. I'm pretty new to techstream though.

 

This saved me $80. I missed that in my original skim.

 

I ordered on MK3 voltage booster for my 2011 Tacoma, "sucker" is quite expensive but hell if its going to charge my X2Power 27F AGM battery to its full capacity I figure its worth it. Haven't received it in the mail yet but when I do I'll keep you all posted if it works.

Ps: its my understanding that these voltage boosters are not compatable with 3rd gen Tacomas. On my 2nd gen Tacoma you can clearly see the stock 7.5amp fuse which will be replaced with the new MK3 7.5 fuse. Hope this works for me!

 

It’s because third gens don’t have that fuse. You will be fine.
