The problem though is that it is also a Miata.

And I think the math you did was POUNDS per HP. Fuck, I'd even drive a Miata if it had 14hp/lb.

You know the most difficult part about driving a Miata?

People asking why this doesn't compare to other mid-range sports cars don't understand car niches. This doesn't seek to rival those cars, it wants to stay in the super-light sport coupe category. And an STi and EVO, etc, etc are about 6-8k dollars more.

It's built to destroy the track, be fun, be cheap and be reliable. Plus, all the reviews out for it have been phenomenal.

Somehow I doubt the tracksters will be getting rid of their mini-coopers or Corvettes (depending how rich they are).

I liked the idea Toyota had with this vehicle. I just wish they could've actually executed it.

Only thing on the track it will be destroying is its brakes

The Subaru version has more understeer, sounds like a better fit for you.

Why? At this weight you would barely need to touch them (and since it's sooo underpowered  ) and when you do need them there is a lot less car to stop.

This. Could it use more power? Sure, most cars could. Does it need more power? No. If you need power get a muscle car, this doesn't compare

FR-S/BRZ, Miata = Light nimble cars

Genesis Coupe = Kinda in between

Mustang, Camaro, Challenger = Powerful cars

Since everyone loves numbers (these are current base model with MT rough spec/prices, don't hold me to these exact numbers):
    - Subaru/Scion BRZ/FR-S (200 hp, 151 lb-ft, 2758 lbs, 13.79 lb/hp) $25000-$25500
    - Hyundai Genesis Coupe (274 hp, 275 lb-ft, 3362-3492 lbs, 12.27-12.74 lb/hp) $24500-$26500
    - Mazda Miata (176 hp, 140 lb-ft, 2447 lbs,13.92 lb/hp) $23500-$25800
    - Dodge Challenger (305 hp, 268 lb-ft, 3834 lbs, 12.57 lb/hp) $25000
    - Ford Mustang (305 hp, 280 lb-ft, 3500 lbs, 11.48 lb/hp) $22200-$23500
    - Chevy Camaro (323 hp, 278 lb-ft, 3750 lbs, 11.61 lb/hp) $23300

I could be biased, I just test drove an FR-S on Saturday and put a deposit down for the next one they get. Hopefully within a month.

Light weight cars are awesome. I've wanted a Mazda RX8 for quite some time. I would love to have a new 86 but the price is too much for what you are getting, maybe a used one some other day but for now I can pick up an RX8 for $15,000 to $20,000 in good shape with low mileage.

Its pretty nice, looked at one the other day when I was at the dealership picking some stuff up. They are REALLY COOL. But I've done the sports/import car scene before, and I refuse to go back. As far as speed and fun, I'll stick with my motorcycle. If I ever buy another 2 door sports car it will be a corvette. Just my 2 cents

I don't like the "get less, pay more" concept that is present with these cars. Yea, they weigh less but you sacrifice a lot of features and muscle over cars in the same price range. I also think boxer fours sound like poo (personal opinion of course) and don't care much for the styling or the fact that Toyota is marketing it as a Scion (GIRL CAR!!!).

However, the Honda S2000 had a couple years on a similar premise, except it was much edgier and more expensive. Maybe this car can appeal to even more people since it's cheaper than the S2000 was...
