Hobbs’ Four Corners whirl-wind Road Trip 2018!

Holey smokes, that was fun!


Wow, a 16 day, 2,850 mile, six state, 14 national parks and monuments solo road trip! I took roughly 1,200 photos, but I promise not to post them all up. I’ll include a few words with the photos I do post, to detail my travels.

This is a rough outline of my route. Your mileage may vary...

 

4/28-29 Drive to Flagstaff, visit museum, do some shopping.

4/30, 5/1 Drive to Chinle, AZ (Canyon de Chelly). Visit Petrified Forest and procure a National Parks Passport, you know, to collect stamps at the parks (soon to be an obsession...). Tour Canyon
de Chelly in a Pinzgauer.

 

5/2 Drive to Chaco Culture Park, enjoy virtual tour of Pueblo Bonito, enjoy the rain! Walked my tail off checking out various ruins. Chaco was on my bucket list, happy of my good fortune to visit!

 

5/3. Drive to Cortez, CO, visit Aztec Ruins on the drive. Enjoyed driving through Ship Rock area.

5/4-5. Visit Mesa Verde, one of my favorite parks!



5/6. Drive to Black Canyon of the Gunnison via Colorado Route 145. What a neat surprise! Discovered Rico, an historical silver mine! Had a great drive!

 

5/7-8. Enjoy Moab. Drive the Shafer Trail up into Canyonlands. Visit Arches. Visit brewery!

 

5/9. Drive to Kanab, UT, visit Capitol Reef, Bryce, Grand Staircase Escalante on the drive. I met an enthusiastic young man at Bryce that digs Tacoma's and is a Tacoma World member. For the life of me I can not remember his TW "handle"...

 

5/10-11. Drive to Zion via North Rim Grand Canyon (closed) and Kaibab Plateau. The Kaibab was on my bucket list as my father and I hunted this area 25+ years ago.
Enjoyed Zion N.P., one of my favorites!

 

5/12. Drive to Callville Bay on Lake Meade. Enjoyed the peace and quiet.

5/13. Drive home via Titus Canyon, Death Valley.

 

This is great! We're heading to Black Canyon this weekend. How did you like it?

 

Very interesting place. Next time I will venture into the gorge.

Looks like a great trip! How did you camp? Specifically, around Canyon de Chelly? I’m headed to Santa Fe (from SoCal) to visit friends, and wanted a good stopover spot past Flagstaff.
