One would likely need to know the context of the altercation to say if it had anything to do with CBA frustration. Though based on Eager's on-ice character, I would say he can douche-it-up pretty hard on some nights...

Im starting to believe the players expected a lockout the entire time. Lidstrom still at 40 was a top 10 maybe 5 d man in the league. He could have played a WC at the big house, and the wings did a decent job rebuilding. That would have been a pretty epic game to play as a lifelong wing and Detroit native, but he hangs it up. Maybe he knew it was never going to happen anyway?

 

What you are saying isn't far-fetched. The NHL owners are a proud bunch with a history of playing hardball. The players should have been well aware that standing up to them would cost them...still, they should be equally aware that the benefits of doing will be minimal....

I had always felt that his reasons for not healing up after his ankle injury last season and him not being able to play to his 100% was kind of weak.

If you're 95% is still better than mosts 100% why not keep going.

This is not entirely surprising when you consider that the league desires to break the union. I just hope it expidites a resolution and not a cold war.
