Agreed, His job is to make the league make money, not the players.

understood, but with him only listening to 1% of the owners and only bringing ultimate greed to the table... hes the figure head... people will call for his head reguardless.

either way he's a pompous prick.

Well, if its true that 20 of the teams are losing money every year then I think what Bettman and the owners are asking is pretty reasonable.

x2. The league wants all of the NHL franchises to be viable, profitable and hence valuable. Currently they are not. The top few teams make stupid amounts of money, and the rest break even or lose stupid amounts. Revenue sharing doesn't solve this problem, it only hides it. There is something wrong when a very small # of teams are paying a lot of money to the majority of the league teams. The union is deluded to think that this is a solution.
Agreed. Bettman f'd up and now he is trying to fix the problem that wasn't fixed the last time the cba was negotiated. That said, he doesn't exactly have an easy job does he? This time he is trying to get it right . Unfortunately he has to battle a "union " of millionaires to get there. Last time the owners gave more than they wanted to. This time they are taking a harder line. This is business folks. These guys are Billionaires for a reason, and being pushed around isn't one of em. If you dont like it then yes, spend your dough elsewhere.

I agree with Doans comment about the GMs living this blah blah - but aren't the GMs the reason the owners are demanding shorter contracts and new Free Agency rules? Digging their own graves.

And kudos to Wild owner Leopold for signing two blockbuster contracts this summer and now turning his organiztion's work week to 4 days. Way to make cuts bud "we want to stay relevant in the league so we signed those 2 contracts" Horse Shit

It would appear there is no such thing as self control. The owners knew the new cba would change payout on contracts...but I am sure Suter and Parise don't care. What were there signing bonus'? Thse have already been paid in full.

Signing bonus for Parise and Suter (identical contracts):
    Year 1: $2 million base salary + $10 million signing bonus = $12 million
    Year 2: $2 million base salary + $10 million signing bonus = $12 million
    Year 3: $6 million base + $5 million signing bonus = $11 million
    Years 4-8: $9 million base
    Year 9: $8 million base
    Year 10: $6 million base
    Year 11: $2 million base
    Years 12-13: $1 million base

Suter was caught talking about the owners signing contracts in bad faith, was he talking about his own owner? Oops:

I'm fucking sick of this shit , I wasn't this pissed off in 2004 , but this time I can't stand it

The next time I hear players complaining about the sacrifices they are making I'm going to puke , the lowest paid guys are making my yearly salary in well under a month

Go fuck yourselves and get a reality check

I am really curious as to what Mario Lemieux's personal opinion of this mess was. He has been involved on both sides of the issue. As a player he was owed over $30 million by the Pens, but he deferred that money into equity to buy the team. As a smaller market, the Pens have done pretty well recently financially. He's had to make deals to sell the team, bring in new investors ect...Im sure his attitude to the players taking a cut is more like a STFU it could be worse, adn with some of the owners, he probaly questions a lot of the decisions some have made over the yrs.

Fehr certainly seems to have the players galvanized to his adjenda. I hope he leads the process toward completion and not to ruin. Should it be the latter, he might just be the devil himself. Does he really give a shit about anything but winning this for his own aggrandizement?

Just think of all the history lessons he kept reciting a month ago - think of what the MLB needed to do for traction: lose a full season.
