Kessel should get more than 5 games for the reason's you cite, but he likely will not. If he would have broken Scott's ankle, then he would definitely be getting north of 5.

I am fine with Kassian's suspension.

the "reckless" acts are the ones that A tend to do a lot of damage and B get punished for more, it keeps players in check and more aware of their surroundings

Is the suspension steep, yes, BUT seriously clarkson got 10 games for jumping off the bench, i think kassian got off easy

 

Agreed, I understand the reasoning but I think injury shouldn't be a criteria for suspension length. As you said Kessel definitely had the intent to injure multiple times and it was not the result of a play on the ice, injury or not he should get MUCH more time then Kassian, which I don't agree with his suspension in the first place.

 

After watching 3 or 4 preseason games , I have to say I like Fonzerella's use of the Sedin's killing penalties and the shoot first edict for the D men

 

I'm not complaining about the Kassian suspension I was just using it as an example

I think the intent to injure is the best way judge the severity of an action. I mean you can full on obliterate a guy, send him to the hospital with a brain injury with the possibility of him never playing another game with a clean hit.
Someone using his stick as a weapon on another player is the more serious infraction and should have more serious consequences.

The thing is at times it's hard to know a players intentions (cooke on karlsson). So the severity of the injury ends up playing a part just to keep people (owners) happy.

The suspension on Kassian is too much. He did not intend to break Gagnes jaw, he shouldn't go unpunished, but 5 games? No.

 

Kassian's suspension is fine

I think he deserves a game. Half of what Kassian should have got but still the 5 games was too much. Kassian 2 games and Kessel 1

 

Kessel should have easily gotten 5 and Carlyle should have been bitch slapped.

 

the NHL disciplinary system is a joke.
