I dont think people are really understanding this whole thing. This Luongo trade is good for the Canucks as a whole, because his contract is so bad with the new rules. They got enough for Luongo IMO and are lucky not to be paying some of his contract. The problem is with getting Horvat for Schneider because he doesnt make sense to what their team is built now. I dont understand what Gillis is thinking
EDIT- apparently they are eating 800k but thats not much at all

My issue isn't with trading Lou , it's with not trading him earlier which forced the Schneider move and now we're trading for a goalie

 

Exactly and really I dont know who will be available. Halak Im pretty sure will be signing long term in Buffalo, Im not 100% sure but thats my gut feeling from the way everyone is talking about the deal. Who else? Reimer is not a large upgrade over Lack, Ward is expensive, and I dunno who else

Yes 15% is what it is. I would be very curious to know what the offer's for Luongo were at the deadline last year.

Oh hell ya. The contract was front loaded and the penalty is based off how much they paid compared to the whole thing. Capgeek has a good calculator that gets the estimate pretty close to the actual number too

 

Leafs offered Scrivens, Frattin, and a 2nd but wanted them to eat 2 mil salary and Gillis said no. Depends how you see it but that would have been a better move IMO and kept Schneider

 

Perhaps Luongo nixed it with his NTC. Gillis needs some high draft picks

 

Gillis is really flying by the seat of his pants. What is he trying to do exactly? Free cap space to sign someone significant, or sell sell sell and rebuild?
