Mark M. disagrees .… Kings captain Dustin Brown won the Mark Messier Leadership Award at the NHL’s annual awards show in Las Vegas. Messier, a Hockey Hall of Famer, selects the winner, a player “who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice during the regular season.”

The hate is strong in this one . Brown does what Brown does to win, and he's there to lead the team when they need him. The moose likes that and it wins hockey games. The leadership of Vancouver on the other hand is questionable at best. I love bieska, he showed real class in taking the face off instead of letting a rookie take it when he knew shit was about to go south in that line brawl against Calgary. I think he should wear the C, not one of two players whose stats are fading off and don't have an ounce of grit.

The Kings officially signed defenseman Matt Greene to a new contract Tuesday, a four-year deal worth an average of $2.5 million per season. Greene, 31, would have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

I like Matt but this deal seems to be a bit high for him, perhaps he's worth it for the intangibles like team chemistry, locker room etc. He does play with a lot of grit for the LA defense .. needs to develop a Rob Blake boomer from the blue line.


Also, Kings center Anze Kopitar finished second (to Boston’s Patrice Bergeron) in voting for the Selke Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s top defensive forward.

Very close and I know it doesn't include playoffs but I'd say Kopi earned it for being in a tougher division.
