Apparently they want 200M of public money and the city would also be on the hook to "clean up" the land proposed, estimated between 50-300M.

WTF I just re-read it and the article is now about 3 times longer than it was when I first read it earlier, lol, but it still doesn't have a $ estimate for the decontamination. I got that vauge number I posted earlier from a guy on facebook. Seems like this would be a good time to get that started, it will have to be done at some point if they are going to build anything there and I'm sure the costs will only go up in the future.
I also just noticed the 240M community revitalization levy, what's that all about?

That is one way to see it. As a fan I would be concerned at how long the contract is when considering his age.

 

The guy is about 3-4 years behind everyone for his age. He had problems breaking into every league past Midget and spent a large chunk of time developing versus playing tough NHL minutes. Almost everyone else at Gio's mileage with Gio's numbers has played 200 more games. A lot less mileage on the chassis than most other defense men at that age should hopefully mean a lot more mileage to come. He's also a great captain and a lot of the Flames success falls on his shoulders. Given that he's also an 8 million dollar man on the free market next year easily I don't see how this isn't a good deal from a fans perspective right now.

Contracts aren't judged well until they are up. Who knows. Maybe Gio will blow a tire at 34 and regress to what he was when he was first in the NHL. That being said, given what I've seen in the last 3 years from him, this is an excellent deal for the straw that stirs the Calgary Flames drink.
