Probably. He's got 17 more goals than Federov... but Federov was a key piece of the Wings multiple cups.

umm.. no? 1487 games, 894 goals. Not even close to 1.8

 

I thought you said OV scored at 1.68-1.8 GPG then drops to 0.38 and, as a result, is pathetic?

You keep talking about goals per game but nobody, gretzky and ovi included, averages 1.8 GOALS per game. You mean points and points per game.

 

ovi is pathetic, as long as we don't use laser accurate numbers to prove that point?

Ovi's problem is not that his production in the playoffs is terrible. It's just that he doesn't score in the playoffs when Washington needs a clutch goal. Great players score in playoff game sevens when they need to. Good players don't.

 

Ok so you are saying game winning goals in post season is the metric? Some players off the top of my head no particular order (GWG/Game - post season, nhl.com):

- Gretzky = 24/208 = 0.115
- Lemieux = 11/107 = 0.103
- Toews = 10/117 = 0.085
- Kane = 10/116 = 0.086
- Keith = 5/116 = 0.0431
- D. Brown = 5/76 = 0.066
- Crosby = 6/100 = 0.060
- ovechkin - 5/72 = 0.069


So by that logic, Dustin Brown is 'greater' than crosby. And of course this does not take into account the supporting players (coincidence that Kane and Toews have similar numbers?).

It also does not take into account different era's - maybe coincidence that lemieux and gretzky have similar numbers?

Still not convinced that ovechkin is pathetic.

 

GWG doesn't count game 7 goals or goals to tie. Arguably those goals count a lot more than the average GWG. It also ignores that a GWG can be the 2nd goal in a 5-1 game where that goal doesn't matter. If you've watched enough of Ovi in the playoffs you'd see a player that just can't seem to figure out how to elevate in situations where his team needs him. That doesn't make him a pathetic player. It does effect how people see him though and it will effect his legacy. Federov was clutch in the playoffs for the Wings... Ovi just isn't.

 

Exactly, see my explanation above. Plus I think this guy has the two of us confused. I never said that Ovi was garbage. I think he's a top 5 player in the NHL who can't figure out how to put himself in the conversation with the other greats because he just isn't a memorable playoff performer. Especially when his team needs him to be.
