If consistancy is important to the NHL, they should allow the lineman to help make calls in ovious situations, more so after the whistle.

 

No stress, I shouldn't always pull out the how many years have you played card, I guess its just a frustrating thing to have to deal with so many bandwagon fans around my own town that do the same complaining about calls that it drives me a little insane when others do the same. I have many good friends that I call out in the exact same way. I know there are some real legitamite fans/players down there and I guess my point is that it is just ingrained in many from such an early age up here not just by playing but by being part of the culture that I feel things are a still a little different. I realise it comes off as sounding arrogant I think there is some truth to it...

As for my hockey career I have been involved in some way or another since the age of 5 in playing, coaching and Ref'n. Always played Defense but never made much of it as I am way too small to compete at a high level on D.

I agree completely that things are inconsistant at best but I I would say they manage to even themselves out pretty good.....It's natural to look biased complaining about calls because we all obviously follow our own teams way more closely than others. This is why I have given up on complaining because I know every time I see something missed, there was a guy cheering for the other team that saw something completley different.

Instead I'll focus to blaim losses on Luongo having a brain cramp or Sedin's not stepping up...

 

It goes both ways, you add more refs and now you have more phantom calls as well....

I like your outlook of the game. I agree its easy to get caught up blaming the refs. I never quite thought of "I know every time I see something missed, there was a guy cheering for the other team that saw something completley different".

 

linesman are allowed to call penalties, it's mostly double minors for high sticks that went undetected by the refs. doesn't happen too often but it does happen.
