If anything Kopi is one of the few in the league that DESERVE a nice contract.

I'd be all for a play in if we eliminated a few games in the first round. Basically have 4 teams, the top two in each division, advance to the quarter finals by default. Then have the teams in each conference ranked 5-12 pay a one game playoff to get into a 3 game quarter final series. That way 24 teams "get in" but we'd get through the opening two rounds in 4 games at most. That alone might eliminate June hockey all together.

Its food for thought, though the way things are now there is strong motivation to be successful through 82 games. If every team gets a post season opportunity at the end of the regular schedule, it may very well take away the current motivation game to game. The stretch run to the playoffs has proven to be pretty fun the past few years imo

If the league goes to 32 teams think 24 teams playing at least for a wildcard birth would still lead to interesting battles. Especially if slot number 12 in each conference had better odds in the lottery, or something similar to that.

The ideas are certainly of interest. I definitely like the idea of finishing the season before June, the playoffs do run too long.

Hayes on Leafs Lunch today saying since OTT was one of the 10 teams on Dion's list, it was like he was playing poker and bluffing with the team. Meaning he thought since TOR and OTT almost never complete a trade, if he put them on his trade list it was almost like having a list of 9 teams instead of 10.

(Speculation: Kessel had Bruins on his 10 team list last year for same reason)

Yup.

The Leafs officially have dumped more salary than Stamkos could even cost them. If they chose to go after him. They are clearly going to target some of the larger potential free agents on the market or maybe even just a large name that's already under contract. They now have tons of room and no captain with more players likely to be traded before the deadline.
