The old school 2 pad stack lol

 

15 years ago as a kid I went to a goalie camp in St. Paul and we had an entire afternoon dedicated to making the 2 pad stack save....not exactly something you see anymore lol

 

Nope , I think Brodeur was the last hybrid goalie still using that move

I've seen Quick bust it out a few times but yeah, Brodeur was the last to use it as part of a regular style. The games is too fast now, it leaves you too vulnerable after the rebound

Everybody uses the butterfly technique now

 

Goalies are clearly playing a positional game, squaring off to face shooters in the butterfly. This is why bigger goalies are dominating, they cover more net while on their knees

 

Definitely all butterfly now, emphasis on flexibility and strength moving laterally. Goalies today are some of the most athletic guys in the world.

edit: NHL caliber goalies I mean...I still play in a beer league but I am far from flexible
