Rough weekend for my boys. At least they were pretty close games. Congrats @TOY33 and @Sterdog for each of your teams earning bragging rights over me lol.

Murray will win the rookie of the year. Nobody can argue this, hes insane. But player wise this is not even close Matthews is the best rookie skater this year. Right now his game is so well rounded its unreal. Mcdavid can score and is probably the best offensive player in the league but Matthews has Toews type of game getting going and fuck its exciting to see

 

Mason was the last goalie to win the award. Let's hope Murray doesn't follow his legacy lol.

I get where you are going with that, but let's be honest....2 different paths, 2 different pedigrees. Didn't Niemi basically get the starting spot in Chicago by default at the time? I honestly forget but I thought it was before Crawford, so it was like Huet or Khabi or something, right lol. Murray has been coined MAF's replacement basically since he showed up here in Pittsburgh, it just happened a little quicker than we all thought. Not saying he couldn't drop off, but just break his NHL career down into 3 parts so far. His regular season last year, his regular season this year so far and his playoffs last year. It's actually crazy how similar the numbers are. Very consistent. And while the Pens are stacked (like how the Hawks were for Niemi), it isn't defensively lol. We own the puck a lot, which sometimes keeps shot totals down against our goalies, but we give up a ton of Grade-A chances against.

 

It's still too early to tell 100% if Murrays best years are ahead of him or behind him. Yes, he's been great and his work points towards a very bright future. However, there have been plenty of examples of goalies with his sort of resume that have burned out quickly.

And by star I mean yes I have him as my keeper in fantasy which is funny because I only got him by accident at the end of the year and I needed a goalie start and he was the last guy available to start as a free agent

 

Odds are you're absolutely right but, man, if you've watched this game a few years how many times have people said that before lol.

 

You are certainly correct. There is a long list of goalies who burst onto the scene and then fizzled out. I'm pretty sure he's going to be a beast though, moving forward.
