It is kinda odd nobody's said anything about what happened. But maybe he just asked for privacy?

No it's not. Ventricular fibrillation can occur spontaneously. It happened to my dad. One day he had a healthy heart rate. The next day he's hooked up to a machine. He got lucky though, he was right near a hospital and a jump start worked.

They are implanting a defibrillator lead in his chest. That means they don't know what caused it so they can't stop it from happening again. They instead will prepare him as best they can for when it happens again. My dad was lucky. They traced his back to a minor heart murmur that went undetected. Sounds like this kid isn't going to be that lucky.

Ya know what......the Oilers have a hard enough time beating the yotes. The mental aspect alone.......crazy!!!
But these fucking refs are working overtime to help the yotes. Sheesh!!

Of course there is a chance it's drug related on some level, or energy drinks as was suggested, but the odds are just as great if not better that something else is the cause. The heart relies on a electrical timer and communication system that is totally separate from everything else in the body. Something goes wrong and you end up with ventricular fibrillation. There aren't just one or two causes. There are dozens.

Dude, I had no idea that they had a losing streak like that to the Coyotes, of all teams. Very strange, no?

I admittedly do not have much interest in either team, but when I heard that, I was a bit shocked.

Hockey is turning into Lacrosse. Get rid of the big hits and all the players do is stick each other. I'm not sure when it became okay to do that either. IMHO they should either change the rule to make it ok (ie taps with the shaft above the waist but below the shoulders are okay) or start calling it how it is in the rule book. Oh, and start calling spearing!

It really is getting ridiculous!! I know some here are sick of hearing his name. But last night was another example. There were a number of occasions where he was so smothered.....that there was nothing he could do. And no arm in the air. At one point, a yote's defender tackled him....and they slid down the ice for several feet. And the defender just stayed there....laying on top of him. Nothing!!!
And he's not the only one. Many other teams (as the article suggests) are seeing this happening to their star players. Only a matter of time before we see someone get seriously hurt (again).

It's Bettmans NHL. They train the officials to call one or two things every year, ie hits to the head, and then the focus comes off of everything else. In 2006 they clamped down on the sticks but since then there hasn't been any focus on it. Big time officials only care about what the league is focused on since that's what they get judged on and right now the spotlight is no where close to protecting the star players from dinky stick work. It's been going on for years too. Lucic is famous for spearing guys in the nuts. He's NEVER been called for it in his NHL career lol. Sad.

    A very compelling argument?

Edit: And for whatever it's worth I haven't seen the build of the year thread. I stay away from all that awards shit. It's just a circle jerk for the guys who are on here all the time with their noses up the mods assholes. I mean don't get me wrong but I've seen a few guys go from seemingly great people to dickheads now over those awards and the fallout from them.

Some of those little clips of that article happen all of the time, it is by no means exclusive to McDavid. So it is a mute point, there. The interference-type of play has creeped back into the league since the initial crack down (similar to what @Sterdog explained a couple posts above). It seems to actually get worse at playoff time. LA is 1 of the biggest culprits (no offense, and as some of you guys know I love the Kings) and are in a way built to play that way. I felt like much of the West is like that, honestly. So anyways, that is a league thing and I can save clips like that from half of Penguins games. But honestly, a puck-possession, speed attack team is going to have that happen to them.

Now, some of those clips of McDavid are bad. The one with the 2 Jets players chasing/hacking on the mini break-away is ridiculous. But again, it's up to the refs to gauge each situation. The stars are gonna get ground down, it's part of the game. If anything, guys like McDavid and Kane etc have it easier than Mario, Lafontaine etc did in their day.
