Basically how I got my set. OLED is gorgeous and far superior, but it's pricy as all hell too. I have bumpers to buy.

Yup, Samsung KU6290 Smart UHD/HDR 65". It's a 2016 model that I picked up for $1500 taxes in on the reserve. (The MU code is 2017) Hooked it up, programmed the Harmony remote that been sitting in the drawer for a year, then signed up and watched The Jungle Book in UHD on Netflix. I swear that you could reach into the TV and pick the fruit off the trees.

The hockey game was amazing to watch in HD on this unit.

I reconfigured everything (satellite/Blue Ray/LAN) to all plug into the TV, then optical digital out to the Onkyo TX-NR905 with Atlantic Technologies 7:1 speakers and a Definitive Technologies SuperCube 1500 watt Sub. The picture is now undiminished by what I feel is a sub-par video card in the Onkyo, but the AV unit's sound is now remarkable as well. I even climbed the antenna tower and hooked up a dual panel HD antenna, so now I receive ABC/CBS/FOX/PBS and others from across the lake. All units are protected by a Belkin Pure AV Power Conditioner/Surge Protector.

I just have to figure out how to stream live Canadian TV (news) for free, then it's bye-bye Ma Bell.

Bell will send you a free 4K box IIRC. Telus is doing that. Only reason I'm keeping Telus. 4K sports are amazing. Apparently next year all the Leafs games will be 4K.

    You missed a spot lol.

I get the convenience of a sound bar, really I do, but I still prefer a true 7.1 receiver setup properly. What's the point of HD/UHD if your sound equals a 1990's boom box?

I'll have to look into that, but I am rural, so I only have satellite TV and 4G 10Gbps wireless internet (LTE coming soon to the tower that I pick up).

Good plan. I got suckered into an Onkyo right when HD came out. I ended up buying a future proof Yamaha that was 4K ready when 4K was first announced. No issues with picture quality even when we play UHD Bluray on our XBone.

Yeah you need Optical for 4K TV. I heard a rumor that the feds are going to start kicking in money to hook up 99% of Canadians to Optical networks since it has such a huge payback.

My basement has 4 block walls :playball: , an air handler for the air to air system, and a washer and dryer.

The washer started leaking yesterday. :frusty:

You have to be sitting pretty close to notice the difference between 4k and 1080. Maybe it's easier to tell with HDR, but a 50" 8bit 4k tv is the same picture quality from 12 feet away as 1080.

Or, at least watching 4k Amazon stuff on my 50" Samsung 6500 looks the same as the 1080 version from where I'm at.

It's more that it's easy to tell the difference between the colour on a standard HD/UHD TV versus an HDR TV if you are viewing content that is either upscaled or originally HDR compliant.

It's true though, for TV viewing distances we are about to hit the wall where the eye can't perceive the difference. 4K is a bigger technology in computer displays where the view distances are very short.
