From now on, a failed offside challenge will result in a two-minute penalty against the club asking for the review. It’s a potentially powerful infraction. Can you imagine a team in a tight game giving up a goal it thought was offside, losing the challenge, then having to withstand an immediate power-play opportunity? It’s going to make bench bosses much more wary — and ratchet up the pressure on video coaches.

Another adjustment that will have strategic impact. Teams are no longer able to call timeout after icing the puck. The other club can still do so if it wishes, but tired defenders won’t be able to ask for the extra rest.

A couple of epic changes in my opinion for this season!

USC spanked Stanford today. The trend should carry over to hockey when the teal make their way south.

Those are pretty massive changes indeed! Still trying to get more goals I assume. There will be less challenges on offside goals. No time outs after icing might get more pucks in the net.

Hate the offside reviews. Takes too much time for a call that is measured most times by fractions of time or distance. The defending team should have been playing better D if it is that small of an infraction or the fact that it isn't a break away or ends up another 3-5 passes before the goal is scored. If every player is back in the zone by that time it shouldn't matter. Play better D!!
Notice no one ever calls for it when it's offside but no one scores....
The no time outs after icing though is silly. You only get one so if a coach wants to blow it on that whatever. What if it's close to the end of the game and he wants to review the play or do some dumbass set up play like the Ducks like to do of late...

On the first note the two minute penalty should reduce the amount of frivolous offside calls. I wouldn't be surprised either if we see more revisions around this rule. Already there are some rumors that offside reviews will take place in TO so that it's a 30 second process at some point this season.

As for the time out rule I like it. Last year game 2 in the Toronto series a clutch time out call basically bailed out the Leafs. Even though they are my team I would of been furious if I was a Caps fan. I'm not sure there should ever be a situation where you have a whistle on an icing and you want a play reviewed. All scoring opportunities are reviewed currently in TO so a challenge because the play didn't stop should be unnecessary this season. As for a set play, well, coaches should have their players ready to execute them without the need for a timeout. Otherwise they are just not very good coaches.

Take away slow motion cameras for offsides.

If it looks good in real time that's good enough.

From what I've heard they have been playing with the sensors and recognition technology that tennis uses. They want to get it to the point where the system recognizes everyone's skates and a light will go off after the goal if an offside was possibly missed. Then they can eliminate the challenge.

Agree. Teams like Montreal need every garbage call they can mustard though, so I doubt the French will stop their ratfink ways.

This is where I have an issue. "IF" a goal is scored then they call it back due to the offside. If they get that technical then it should be called immediately and play should be stopped just like how the refs do it. Can you imagine the uproar if someone shot a puck and the goalie took it in the neck but it still went in...then it is called back due to offside that occured almost a minute before that should have been called?
I think the refs get it pretty close and the more technical it gets the less folks will want to become refs. Sooner or later the whole game will just be cameras calling the game. Then who will we yell at???

I have fond memories of LA beating the Av's on more than one occasion @ the fury/mgm grand.

.... but the roadtrip games should continue with the Knights, so all is not lost ... unless the new club folds or moves. <--- which is probable :(
