Ya, I was annoyed by that just because it's making it 'about him'. Going on that trip is just that, celebrating at the Whitehouse. It doesn't suggest any political affiliation or show your approval of whoever is in office. It's insane how people get about that stuff. Again, everyone is free to do as they please, but it would be nice if every single thing someone does isn't somehow intertwined with something political.

Sure it is. Cubs built/bought a team in a non-cap sport. Canucks are in cap-hell. @OZ-T has 5 more years, minimum, of posting that and 100% chance of it not happening lol.

I think 97 leads the league again in points. I think (hope) Auston gets 40G again. I still think Auston might be a better overall player, I know that might be ridiculous. McDavid is very dynamic and probably the most explosive player in league, w/o a doubt. But Sid was like that too but had to tone it down and play better all over the ice to be the best. Will he learn to do that, also?

Eichel deal is pretty much where I expected him to be. Fair on both sides.

Matthews is in his sophomore season so who knows, he might regress points wise as team's will be all over him now. I think Nylander will have a breakout season and Marner will lead the team in goals. I think Matthews is a complete player including that all ice hockey sense that will let him play in both ends. McDavid has way more top end skill but I'm not sure he is ever going to show Crosbys two way game Crosby found after a couple of years.

I'm hoping Matthews accepts a 10 million a year deal like Eichel but who knows, he might want to fuck his team's ass like McDavid. The Leafs will have to be careful not to sign a couple of pylons into the kids contract renewal years like the Oil did.

 

I think McDavid has already had to slow up a bit so his team mates can keep up. Part of the reason he (and guys like Taylor Hall) get hurt early in their careers is they think they have to crash the net and go full tilt all the time.
I agree with Sterdog that Mathews will have trouble with extra attention he is sure to receive. As for what he should get paid 10 I think is fair. Also McDavid took a pay cut @Sterdog lol. Really he could have a would have got more if he wanted. He will soon be the best offensive player, and it won't take much for him to be a lot better 2 ways.

 

No matter how good he is it won't matter if the team can't surround him with the right people.

I'm not saying that McDavid was out to lunch with what he asked for but he did take the same-ish percentage as Crosby did with a big difference. With Crosby they knew the cap was going to likely grow by 20 million or more during the deal. With McDavid it's very likely the cap might not grow that fast which could cause issues.

Time will tell. You already know I don't like the deal.
