Tampa Bay should be gone. Their team made it to the Conference finals, and they will still lose 30+ million dollars. Would love to know how they will keep stamkos. Lecavalier is unmoveable, and makes 10 cash (7.7 cap hit) and with their internal cap of around 45-50 mil that starts them with 40 to spend on 22 roster players. Yikes

 

I'm not sure losing money is a reason to get rid of a team. It's a reason to get new management though.

 

They have that though. They are losing money because of lack of interest which is insane. They have one of the best players in the league St Louis, two of the best young players in the game Stamkos and Hedman, and an all around beast for a Captain Lecavalier. They just made it 2 shots away from the Cup finals , and won it in 2004. There's literally nothing more to add to the selling point. If I lived there I would be crazy for them because I love hockey.

 

I live in ATL now, the team is lame. Nobody goes, or cares. They had 250 show up for a rally to support the team a few weeks ago. Poor management, poor owners, poor town. That being said I think there are better options than Winnipeg. They now have the smallest arena in the NHL, with limited amount of corporate sponsers. I guarantee a bunch of Thrashers would rather sign elsewhere as a RFA/UFA than play in Winnipeg.

 

Move Phoenix or the Islanders to Quebec City

 

I think folding 2 teams would do the trick, goodbye blue jackets and panthers.

Blue Jackets? You realize they have an insane hockey market there right? There NOTHING wrong with their situation IMO. Florida ya, but once they tank a few years and get some solid pieces they will attract people I think

 

ya i guess. atleast the BJs have made the playoffs since the lockout, unlike some teams that should be relegated to the ahl.

So name a better option than Winnipeg? It's pathetic "fans" like you who cause teams to fail in the US. Limited intelligence and no idea about hockey. Winnipeg may have the smallest rink but will put more fans in the seats than a good chunk of the US teams... As for limited corporate sponsors, do you know anything about the market? Thought so, so STFU. Good management and deep pockets coupled with fan support should equal success.

Quebec, SLC, Portland, Seattle would all be better options. Just because they sell tickets doesn't mean they're gonna make any money. Hartford, Quebec, Winnipeg, Minnesota all had strong fan bases, sold tons of tickets but still failed. Buffalo doesn't make a lot of money either. I'll admit I don't know a lot about Winnipeg, but I look at Edmonton who can't get anyone to waive a NTC or any UFA's t sign. Why would Winnipeg be any better? When the team sucks ppl will stop going, well probaly not in Canada, the Leafs still sell out.

 

Your four examples of failed franchises were before the current revenue sharing measures in the NHL , and for the Canadian teams , with the Canadian dollar at about .70 cents US .

The Canadian dollar is stronger than the US greenback , and the Candian economy more stable than the US one , add to that the fact that people up here are true hockey fans and it's a no brainer .

FWIW , Phoenix will be in Quebec City for the 2012 / 2013 season .
