Vezina aside, I don't see how it can be said that he is amazing and it is crazy to move him and keep Gibson. As if Anderson has been so much better. He hasn't. To me, that was a ridiculous statement. And their stats for this year are almost identical, and the Ducks aren't good. So liking 1 over the other, as a fan, I get. But to claim 1 is far superior to the other is pretty far-fetched. And factoring in age, upside etc I'd bet majority of GM's would have picked Gibson and still would, even in hindsight.

I'd say the opposite, actually. That voters would rather award someone who consistently plays above the competition throughout the whole season compared to someone who plays extremely well for part of the season.

In 14/15 Dubnyk played far and away better than any other goalie for the entire second half of the season after he moved from Arizona to Minnesota but lost the Vezina to Price who had a great season as well but was consistent for the whole year.

Agreed. In the cap era, age is king for who you keep when every other stat is close. I never claimed anything on that trade except that TO made out like a bandit. They paid very little for the impact he has had on the Leafs. When they first signed him I questioned the money and term given that I still felt Andersen was not a proven number one. At this point though it would be very difficult to argue against that trade from TO point of view.

From Anahiem's view I think they would of liked to of kept both lol. That just wasn't possible though with the expansion draft and the other players they needed to protect.

I would say that was more East coast bias than anything else. The majority of the voters would of watched 90% of Prices play. Dubnyuk, not so much because he plays in the west. Even after that though Price was the clear winner that year, he was not only the best goalie but the best player in the NHL.

That being said Dubnyuk still was nominated for the Vezina based on a hot run and his importance to his teams record ;)

Ya I get you. I think Andersen is great, so not taking anything away from him. He was really good in that Caps series at times last year. And I've seen a handful of Leaf's games this year and he's looked solid. I don't think you can go wrong with him in net. And as far as the Ducks, they have themselves a great young goalie, who i think is going to be very good for a long time. That team had a rough start this year with injuries to pretty much all of their top guys. There was a span there that Gibson was seeing like 45-50 shots regularly. He's been good. Seems like they are maybe in a position to try to get it turned around, so we will see. But Leafs are in, obviously, so will be cool to see how they do, especially if Andersen plays like he did in that series last year.

You, or someone else, also mention Luongo. I remember his first Vezina nomination. He was with the Panthers. He had a save percentage well above average, Andersen is not middle of the pack when the average is .913 in the league, but he faced the most shots out of all goalies, most games played, most wins, and obviously highest TOI.

I would suspect if Andersen squeaks in those will be the reasons cited. He's in that ballpark.

Anyways, we get it. You think Andersen is middle pack. Fair enough. Guess we can see how the rest of the season plays out and who gets voted into the top 3

If they play Tampa he will have to play at that level because the guy in the other net likely will be the Vezina winner lol.

Ya all 3 of the Atlantic teams have guys playing great. Should be good. Hopefully I can start to throw Murray into that conversation if he stays in the form he's been in as of late (as far as playoff goaltending studs, not Vezina).

I still can't believe how good Kessel is for the Pens right now. Arguably, he's been there best forward.

Ya, he's incredible. Even Sid said that he's been our best player all year (which is true). And that is with Sulli basically bouncing him all over the place and mixing him with every line combo that you could think of. But he just goes out and seems to have the puck like gravitate towards him, always lol. He's a hell of a passer and that shot obviously. Good for him.

Yeah. As long as Kessel remembers there are two ends of the ice and wants to give his 100% effort he's worth every penny.

For the nucks fans here. It looks like Vancouver is going all in on the rebuild as expected to try and get their two studs some help.

Thoses are cave man stats. There are many other goalie stats that are more advanced that and show things like shot attempts per game, 5vs5 shots, shot location, etc. Andersen is having the most difficult season since 2009-10 of any goalie. They talked about it the other day in depth on TSN radio (i think it was). Theres a good chance hes a vezina finalist, i dont think he wins because Rinne, Rask, and Vasi are ahead of him but hes been unreal

As in the people who decide the finalists and winner will primarily looks at stats. And the basic ones at that. Which is why I said that if you aren't in the top 5 for the three main stat categories you have very low chances of a nomination.

He's definitely having a difficult season as far as the shots/quality shot attempts go, so if he was also at the top of the goalie categories most people will look at he'd have a real good chance of a nomination. But he isn't.
