FYI the odds of Vegas winning the Stanley Cup at the beginning of the year were 500 to 1 in Vegas . . .

A $25.00 bet would net u $25,025 if they win it . . .

 

I guess nothing. What can you do? Maybe they will adjust things a bit for Seattle expansion but you can't do much as far as Vegas, right? They happened to have timing work out to get a great coach, great GM who were available. Factor in they were able to take a team of solid '2nd wave' guys and a few stars. Then hand-picking the full team to get guys that fit how you want to play. But even with that, a lot had to go right for them to get to where they are. On paper, they still aren't better than more than a few teams (Tampa, Winnepeg, Pittsburgh etc) but the whole team is rolling, playing the system to perfection and getting great goaltending. No one could have predicted it and you can't punish them for it.

 

It's been fun to watch how excited the Knights are. A lot of times their faces look like the Disney underdog kids who just beat the big bully team.

 

This is a dream come true for him, if only he can find a way to recreate the magic in Seattle.

Caps played a solid game. They were in TB's face all night. Some big hits (a few questionable but that is how the Cap's roll, apparently), basically outplayed TB in every area. Vasi played a good game though.

A competitive team of 3rd and 4th liners.

 

I mean, it's definitely more than just a team of 3rd 4th liners. Neal, they have 2/3 of Florida's 1st line when Gallant was there (Marchessault and Smith). And they have a few other guys that any team would've loved to have (Schmidt and Haula come to mind). That being said, anyone who is a fan of any of the good teams from this year (Winnepeg, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Boston etc etc) are you willing to say that on paper the Vegas roster is more stacked than your own team? I'm not. If you also aren't willing to say that compared to your own team, then you can't complain about their roster. It's more than just the group, on paper. I have no problem with them being competitive. But like mentioned before, A lot of other things went right for them to reach the Cup Final. Karlsson is a great example. Went from 6 and 9 goals to 43. No one would have predicted that. It certainly wasn't they were handed an unfairly stacked team that cruised, like some people are acting like (not saying on here, just in general).

Sucks for fans of teams like Toronto, St. Louis, Vancouver & Washington to have teams for so long and have never won, but Vegas has a great shot. Also a shit load of probably 10 teams that have been around for 20 years and have nothing to show.

 

Agreed their overall skill level does not match up with a few other teams on paper, but they have the best hockey player in the world right now (Fleury) the coach of the year, the GM of the year, a complete roster with speed that can hit. These guys are pretty tenacious defenders applying puck pressure and not allowing any room to generate a lot of good scoring chances.
If Fleury keeps up his level of play they will roll over who ever wins the East.
