IMHO I completely disagree. Serviceable plug and play top four D go for a huge premium in this league. For a surplus forward, a prospect, and a non-lottery pick we got a guy who can eat minutes and won’t cough up the puck like he forgets which team he’s on “cough” Gardiner “cough”.

Name me a D man under 35 who can play over 20 minutes a game whose been traded for less in the last couple of years? That scenario just doesn’t exist. We gave up nothing we need now for something we need now. From my perspective I feel like Dubas has shown the locker room he’s ready to help address their needs. Next move in my mind is to place Gardiner on waivers to free up room for a rental.

I’m being factious when I say place Gardiner on waivers. Odds are Edmonton would give us something for him lol. I really hoped Dubas would be able to grab Muzzin without sacrificing Kapenan and he managed to pull it off. Muzzin is a plus 10 player on a dumpster fire of a team. He hits, unlike every other TO defender, and he can move the puck forward without massive turnovers. Yeah, the price was high, but TO can foot that bill this year without hurting themselves too much.

Picks and prospects are all a gamble. Muzzin is a proven D. You guys did well.

Seems like a good move for both sides, I would think? I think Muzzin is really solid and probably gives Tor exactly what they need. Not too sure about the prospects involved, but when you have a really young core, then you sometimes need to sacrifice picks and prospects to get the pieces you need. Seems like a good deal for both.

I wonder how Edmonton feels today after watching TO get the type of player they need for non roster players and picks.

It's a fair deal, Grundstrom is basically NHL ready 6-9 winger. Durzi is an ok prospect and then a 1st rounder which is gold these days. Fair deal I guess it just makes it even harder for the leafs next season when they needed cheap players like Grundstrom to play when everyone else get paid

Man, I hate to see Muzz go ... one of the unfortunate things that has to be done to keep younger/faster.

It all started in a land far away known as game 7 duckpond. He found out deep down that severe choke is real.

Happy the Brassard experiment is over. Gave up way too much for how average he is.

I actually think he's a really good player who just didn't fit. I agree that he probably is better off getting moved, but I just don't understand what the Pens are going for. All year they say they need to get faster, but they've traded away fast guys. Just like they said they needed to get tougher, got Reaves, then traded him and claimed they needed to get tougher. Got Oleksiak then traded him and said they needed grit and size. So then they make this deal, didn't get faster or tougher. Got rid of a good PK guy and some picks. It's all just so odd. It's like they just keep swapping parts and hope it works, no clear goal or identity like '16-'17. Not saying these are bad players, Bjugstad is decent. Just not a guy that stood out as the type of player who fit what we were doing.

They’re really swapping for youth, size, and contract length. Production is about equal this year. I’ll take bigger guys on the ice that are producing at about the same level on a friendly contract for sure.

Ya, I get what you are saying. But at the same time, you didn't get a very physical 6'6 player, he's just big. And probably slower and not as well rounded as Brass. Granted, Brass never played to the expected level, production-wise. Also, Sheahan was another good overall player (pk, face-offs etc) but not much on score sheet. All year, we supposedly needed to get faster. We traded bigger physical guys and now we suddenly need size again. Just seems like a bunch of moves, hoping it works, without much direction...at least in the past year or so. Hopefully it works.

I look at this trade as a way to get out from Brassard. They weren’t going to sign him again, and now we have two guys with some more time.

I’ll still pissed we traded Reeves for Brassard.
