The Jets are a really good team but it's also really easy to pick out their problems. Their best young players are inconsistent. Their original core is aging. Their depth at center is questionable for an elite team. Their D should be better than it is. Those a minor things but, yeah, easy to see how they could either make the finals or bow out in the first round.

 

Vegas gets Stone. On paper they have to be better than what they were last year. So maybe they catch fire too.

 

They gave up Brannstrom. I guess they are officially in win now mode lol.

 

Preds grab Simmonds.

 

NHL website says they gave up Brenden Lemieux and 2 draft picks for Hayes.
2019 first rounder and the other pick is conditional: a 4th rounder if the Jets win the cup. So seems the league has already penciled them in as the champs and the rest of the season and playoffs is merely a formality.

 

A first round pick for a 25 goal scoring rental forward is crazy enough. Adding in a young cap friendly roster player is just silly. Maybe the Jets know something we don't but on the serious side that price is cringe worthy.

 

Preds got Granlund too.

 

Yeah that does seem like a lot to give up.
I don't know too much about Hayes but the Jets have plenty of other guys that can score goals. From what I've heard today from Ranger fans we are getting a complete player, goals scored aren't the be all end all.

Columbus did too though they got their work done with Ottawa a bit earlier on. The Knights surprised me. They gave up a likely future top 2 D man for Stone, which says to me they’re changing gears into trying to win while Fluery is still young enough to backstop them. I thought Ottawa got a good haul for their assets but future picks and prospects sadly don’t fill seats. They might have to turn some of that cap space and picks into assets this summer. I still think the “worst” deal of the day might be the Hayes deal but, hey, if he comes in and brings them some stability for the Jets then it’s worth it if they can go deep. The Avalanche making a deal surprised me a bit as well.

 

As a Flyers fan I will say it was a good final 3 minutes and OT. That goal by Malkin was also a bad goal for Elliot. I agree on the uniforms, I definitely liked the Pens more.
Simmons was traded to the Predators today (as @Sterdog stated)... good for him. He's on a legit contender now, the Flyers are going nowhere this year nor for a few years to come!

 

Time to watch the best hockey team in the league. The seats aren't too shabby.

Why would Pittsburgh want Gudbranson

 

TB is one of the best teams going right now I remember in my life. But for some reason they don't overly scare me vs the leafs. I think TB would smoke the Bruins though. Just how they stack up but I could be wrong

Damn Tampa almost lost to the 2nd worst team in the league

 

This is the way I see it. Tampa is scary when they use their speed up front to cover up their lack of speed on the blue line. Toronto does the same thing, just with a much worse core of defence, so it really comes down to goaltending. Both Toronto and Tampa have streaky goalies so if they get into a foot race back and forth whoever has their goalie show up big wins.

The Bruins are still a one scoring line, three grinding lines, sort of team. They can be very good when they can win battles early and frustrate other teams.

 

On any given night anything can happen. However I do like our chances vs the kings in a 7 game series hehehe

 

I'm not making any predictions. The fact is for this lightning team anything less than a Stanley Cup will be a disappointing season.
