Best player in the game? Nah. Top 5 for sure.
I’d take McDavid over Crosby any day of the week.

He's more dynamic and harder to cover/stop on the rush. Other than that he's not close to Sid. Can't win a battle on the boards, doesn't play a 200ft game, doesn't really make people around him any better. We will see how long it lasts when he's not as fast. After a few years when Sid wasn't super fast and aggressive anymore, he adjusted his game and became more focused on details, which let him stay at the top of the league. Even Ovi somehow adjusted his game from being the fast, power forward that he used to be. Not saying McDavid isn't a top talent. Him and Kuch score a lot but when it's all said and done, I'd bet Sid is going down as the better player.

McDavid is still a kid and his playing style is more equivalent to the newer era style where it’s faster and more aggressive. Sid is getting older and has to adjust to a different style that better suits him. Look at how datsyuk was, especially in the later years. A bit slower, but had impeccable technique and skill.

Nearly every analyst still agrees that Sid is the best player in the league, which is saying something considering the defense he’s had to play with over the past few seasons. He also had one of his best years this year, indicating he isn’t on the downslide yet.

McDavid is going to be great, but he’s no where near ready to ready to dethrone Sid. Like people comparing Zion to LBJ..

Obviously McDavid is still young and hopefully his best years are in front of him yet. I just think his game needs to grow. Sid is on the downside, obviously but the guy is so good in every aspect of the game, it's insane. And McDavid has a long way to go to come close to the player Sid has become and the longevity of his game. We will see. Obviously Sid's reign is coming to an end though. Even when someone else is clearly the game's best player (and I'm sure that will be McDavid) just point totals aren't going to put him above what Sid was able to do in his best years. Not knocking McDavid, he's a beast. Just saying. I love watching him, I just hope he starts to round out his game because going 100mph on the rush isn't the only important part of hockey.

Mcdavid is an end to end player. He has enough in him to make the goalie look silly and if you give him open space you’re not catching him. Crosby is a percentage player, as in he puts himself in the positions where he think he can get points on the board. That’s why he’s a grinder, goes into the corner, odds are he’s gonna come out with the puck and in turn finds someone else or the net. Parks himself near the net, odds are he’s gonna find the back of it. Floats around the blue line knowing there’s a high percentage of him getting the puck, getting past the defense for a breakaway, getting points on the board. He’s a stick and lower body player and uses it to his advantage.

In general, I agree with all of this. But early in his career, Sid was very much a 'score on the rush player' He used to split the D or blow right around them. His game has since evolved. It's basically impossible for a D-man to keep gap on 97. He's just too fast and does things at speed that probably no one else in the game has ever done. I'm just saying, I'd like to see McDavid also evolve his game, as he gains experience. Sid was always the more complete player but I thing his positioning, power and way he thinks the game, just makes him dangerous everywhere (and opens up his linemates for more opportunities). McDavid either scores on the rush or draws everyone to him, to stop that and then he dishes it. But he could do himself some favors if he learned how to come out of the corner with the puck, from a battle and other little things like that. I get sick of hearing about how he's the whole team and gets no help, when his playstyle does nothing to help anyone else, aside from drawing attention. Again, not hating, he's incredible. But just my opinion.

Still can’t believe we won in 09, and I couldn’t celebrate because there were sleeping newborns at the watch party (what) and we were getting up early to head to the beach (which was, to date, the worst vacation I’ve ever been on).

Talbot’s goal is still a mystery to me. I’ll take it, but man.

I've never completely understood the need to compare McDavid and Crosby. My opinion but they're two different players with different styles and enough age difference that a direct comparison will be more opinion than fact. I'd build on that and say that even if McDavid manages to grab several scoring titles with MVP nods, without a cup and a couple of defining winning moments like Crosby in the 2010 Olympics, it isn't even an argument. It's one thing to be a great but it's another to be a winner and right now McDavid is only one of the two, that's what the facts say, but McDavid has a whole career to prove guys like me wrong.

He’s playing 27 minutes a night lol. If he can still move by the second round I’ll be shocked. You can’t play a forward that often every second night.
