Yeah, as the article you posted shows the underlying numbers don’t support a crazy high offer sheet for Marner. It’s almost like Marner wants a home premium instead of a home discount lol.

 

Another minus for Karlsson

 

I think it's a combination of the team plays within their means. They play a tight structured game and don't give up much. That takes a lot of the pressure off of the goaltender, which is why they got great seasons out of what I consider average goalies. Once you lock that down, then you become opportunistic, since they really don't have a ton of scoring depth. This was really apparent in rd1. Pens played right into their plan. Sit back, let the Pens try to pass through the cent of the ice (or try to skate around stacked up defenders), and let the turnovers feed the transition. It worked to perfection as the Pens continued to do the same thing and were too stubborn/stupid/lazy to change. The Canes, didn't play a fancy game, they got to work. Did a chip and chase / area pass when they needed to and took opportunities when they were there. And w/o feeding NYI's transition, their lack of scoring depth seemed to show, in my opinion. Props to Trotz though, he got a lot out of a team with a mediocre roster (in my opinion).

Prob a game. I think he just went to make a hit on a guy w/ his head down, didn't look to make a dirty hit. He did propel upwards though and left his skates, which is why I say 1 game.

 

Its also possible that if the Oilers had Vanek they might have had a better record changing the picks. In hind site it would have been the smarter move for the Sabres but they could not let Vanek go after they failed to sign both Drury and Briere that summer.

 

Fair enough by the rules. But then the hit on backes should have been an undeniable game suspension as well.

It's hockey. It is what it is. That same hit was made on many different players throughout the game. The one diffence being his head dipped down before the hit and had an unfortunate outcome.

 

I get you. Just 1 of those things. You know how that goes. Boston still easily could have gotten a 5min for that and didn't, so really can't be too upset.
