Every team gets shit calls. Timing is everything.

That could be the case. I have to listen to the games as I’m at work and can’t see the things fans gripe about. A seven game series is a big challenge for all teams lucky enough to be in. Good luck to either team.

If he can be offside in this situation, how come there's not a penalty for to many men on the ice?

I had the exact same thought. No clue.

 

Cant use a challenge for a penalty. Lot of ambiguity

 

No sour grapes here, Sharks were better team, my question remains... if he's offside, he's the 6th Av player on the ice. If you can call it one way, (offside) why not the other (to many men on ice). This happens every shift change in every game and its never called unless it affects the flow of the game. Did his skate being off the ice affect the game in any way? The Nhl is usually pretty good about common sense calls like goalie interference where technically the goalie was touched but because it did not affect the play, goal stands

Wow apparently it’s not holding when you headlock someone and drag them down to the ice lol.

The officiating at the IIHF tournament is better than the NHL playoffs and that’s sad.

 

All he had to do was tag up (or jump off before they re-entered). He didn't. That is why. He technically never left the zone. So while he was within the range of not being called for too many men, he was still on the ice and offsides, upon re-entry.

Another example is when you can be getting off of the ice, your man jumps onto the ice. You are close enough to the boards and considered in the 'safe zone' but then somehow touch the puck, then you are suddenly active again in the play (for too many men). So yes, he was in the 'safe zone' for a change, as they saw it, but once the puck re-entered the zone, he is active in the play again and offsides. Not sure what is so confusing about it.

Anyways, Canes look dead in the water. They better wake up.

 

I'll add that the Canes are literally getting manhandled on the ice but not getting the calls and you can tell it's deflating them. They haven't come across a team like Boston that knows how to walk the playoff rule line really well and I don't think they're ready to respond without giving up more powerplays.

I heard a funny thing on the radio that had me thinking, in what other major league are the rules called differently in the post season? Think about it. We accept a different rule set in the NHL come April but in the NBA, NFL, and MLB the rules are called exactly the same in the post season. With some of what's happened this year I hope the NHL examines that practice in the future. Watching people get high sticked and put in headlocks without a call seems pretty mickey mouse for a major league.

 

Ya that is very true. All good points. That is very annoying. It was sorta like a few years back when the refs/rules were really big on obstruction and then in the playoffs you saw teams like the Kings doing a ton of the 'Intentionally / unintentionally interference' to slow teams down on dumps and transition. That was really apparent at that time because they were calling the interference hard during the regular season. So yes, I do agree that it is a problem and it is silly how the rues change once we get to the playoffs.
