Ryan Miller retiring after this season. My favorite player since Felix Potvin, back when I was a kid (Mario doesn't count.) Took USA goaltending to the next level (along with Quick.) Hell of a career. Wish he could've got the gold or a Cup but either way, props.

 

I'll always remember him for losing the Gold in 2010.

The CBC call on that Edler/Simmonds fight was great. "I don't think he has a target on his back, oh wait, Simmonds is going to go with him".

 

I mean that sucked, but whatever. He was tourney MVP and was incredible in those Olympics. Just sucks that 1 goal will be what everyone remembers him for.

It sucks, but it is what it is. He was great no doubt but he never won a big championship game at the pro level.

He also got beat because he didn't think Iggy could get the puck to Crosby out of that corner, and Crosby immediately noticed that he wasn't ready for the shot and put it right through him as he over reacted. It was a brutal goal to lose on.

Well I hope people don't only think of that but it does stick with him a bit.

Funny story, after that Olympic break, I still had a partial season plan and 1st game back was Buf. Miller didn't play but they did an Olympic tribute thing before the game, both teams were on the ice. They did the players from the Euro teams (Geno, Matta etc) then Canada and half the crowd booed Sid (myself included) and they did USA last. I think it was Orpik and Miller finally. And he got a huge standing Ovation. It was so rad. I'll never forget that. Was very cool.

Potvin to me is always a Leaf but it was cool that he played in LA. I was a goalie as a kid and he was my favorite player, just because I tried to emulate his style (which my coach would yell at me for).

But when Miller came along he was a guy that I had high hopes for, because I was hoping USA would start producing some top level goalies. And luckily he turned out to probably be the face of USA goaltending, along with Quick. And now I think USA is turning out some great goalies with Gibson and Hellebuyck amongst others. And hopefully Spencer Knight.
