Wow, Gru is going to Seattle. Not sure I like the Avs without him as much. Especially since most of the goalie moves happened this morning.

The Leafs grabbing Mrazek for ~3 over 3 is a screaming deal. No offence to Andersen but I trust this tandem over what we had last year.

A goalie overload for Seattle. Looks like they have a trade chip or two.

Penguins, why did you re-sign Dominik Simon? Even for $750K, why?

Washington gets Vanecek back for a 2nd rounder. That seems like a good deal for the Caps.

Barrie, Nurse, Keith, and Ceci are the Oilers top four. It's going to be a wreck lol. Trading Bear and letting Larson walk was stupid.

Ceci vacillated between the 2nd and 3rd pairing last year. He was generally better in the 3rd pairing.

Wilson held onto Jones far to long.

I remember liking Reimer, but he's no step up from Jones.

I don't care what anyone says, the MVP of this draft is Red Wings 4th round pick Red Savage.

Agree 100%. That only works if 1 of those 2 big contracts is gone.

"analytics" lol. Watch him play on Sid's line all year too.
That's a tough loss, in my opinion. He was very steady for us last year

Agree 100%. Pretty much all the way up to their '16 Cup run, he was solid. And it's like since then he sort of slipped in and out. Granted, the team also had moments of not helping him out much too, but still. That team needed to make a move at that position for a while now and I'm not sure what they did was the right one lol. They basically have (2) No.2 guys on their roster.

Hextall was quoted yesterday as saying Jarry and DeSmith will both be in camp when things start up. We have to remember, Hextall has no association with Fleury, so he may not have the same opinion as many here. Also, unless Chicago covers a good portion of Fleury's salary, the Pens could only make this go by trading a Zucker, Petterson, Matheson, Malkin (recovering from surgery) or Letang. Cap Friendly says the Pens have about $3.5M left, but they have to sign Aston-Reese and are likely to sign Radim Zohorna. That will use up that $3.5M. Who really wants Matheson or Petterson at their salary? Malkin at $9.5M and recovering? LOL. Even Zucker isn't very appealing now and having lost McCann, can we afford to lose another top 6 forward? It looks like Jarry and DeSmith are it. I'm more concerned about a top 4 defensemen at this point.

To me, the idea of MAF returning home was never that realistic. And I don't know why Chicago would flip a guy and retain salary. If he doesn't report (retires) then they get the full cap relief. So it seems silly for them to trade for a guy, just to retain his salary to go elsewhere (while taking on another potential bad contract in the process.) Pens are not in a great spot. Like you said, ZAR is going to take up the majority of what is left. I am not sure exactly what the qualifying offer was, however. I like Matheson, honestly. So I'd keep him. I don't even mind Petterson, but he has regressed a bit, compared to the level he was at when he first got here. It does seem like we need a d-man. Not sure if tey plan on using POJ or Riikola in an increased role. Not sure if we can retain Friedman or what? And we still have Ruwhedel, who I think is a good number 6. As far as goalies, Jarry and Desmith is still not terrible. I still think Jarry is good. And like we talked about during playoffs, had Desmith not been injured, he may have saved the series and our goaltending depth could've saving the day. So there is always the trade deadline. I see no panic to get a goalie heading into teh regular season. See how that duo looks and if they look bad, you can always grab someone by the time the playoffs roll around (assuming we are in the mix.) I thought McGinn was a good signing, btw.

We will see if Fleury decides to play. He's a competitor but the Blackhawks are unlikely to even make the playoffs so this would be a lost season for him. Still, $7M talks, even to a guy who has made multi millions. Regarding the Pens, Friedman is signed for the upcoming season, @ only $725K. I would see him as the 6th defensemen, certainly before Rikola, who I believe the Pens have given up on. Oliver-Joseph is signed for the upcoming season as well, @ $863,333, then he is a RFA in the Spring of 2022. I would like to see him get playing time. He may be the replacement for Letang, who is a UFA at the end of next season. I can't see re-signing him for the price he will want. Still, if the Pens are looking for a little grit, Friedman may be the answer.

Heinen is a good signing for the Pens, given the situation.

Thanks. I didn't see this one. He's coming cheap. That's all we can do.

They are shaking things up it looks. They did not get a great return for either this trade or the MAF trade. It must be all about creating cap space.
