Petersen not panning out really screwed everything up. It looked like he could start to slip into the starter's role 2 years ago. Let him be the 60% guy and JQ 40%. But then last year Cal just fell apart, luckily Quick had a pretty strong season, considering. But this year, I think it's just too much to ask him to be the guy, with his style of play at this stage of his career. And I dont think Copley is the guy, even though he played well in some stretches this year. They need a young guy to step in, that is number 1 worthy. My opinion. But like you said, hopefully Quick gets in a zone and if he can play like himself for an extended stretch, that team would be very dangerous this year.

Pulling for the Canes and the Leafs tonight, to close the gap to the Bruins. Gonna watch the Canes-Sabres game (TNT) and glance in on the Bruins-Leafs game (ESPN+).

Dude is from the North Pole ... THE NORTH POLE !!! lol Yeah, wish he was younger but seems to have the tools to win at this level. The Petersen ordeal is odd, maybe the $$ took away the drive ?? The Kraken have LA's real JQ protege in Jones, which is turning out to be a good race. Doesn't mean much, but would like to see LA win it's 2nd division title, to join with the lonely 1991 Smyth banner.

Canes strong defense beats Sabres powerhouse offense (league leading 3.8 G/GP) 5-1 for their 7th win in a row. A pretty amazing effort considering the Canes just played last night making it back to back games.

Bruins break a 3 game losing streak beating the Leafs 5-2.

maybe with that good lead but they’ve lost a lot of the lead they had already, a lot of hockey left and you know it don’t come easy…

Also it’s not much of a consolation prize if you don’t win the cup.

That was a good game. Canes came out hot. I thought afterwards it was cool hearing Burns talk about Brindamour. He def sounds like a guy that gets the most out of people in a unique way.

Burns was a really good pickup, rocket of a shot and a personable guy. Sabres lost Thompson their leading scorer to injury, so a really tough loss for them.

Things tend to change a lot after the upcoming trades so will be an interesting second part of the season.

I agree. I know it's almost trendy to talk crap on those events but seriously that was bad. The Skills Comp was the worst it's ever been. I honestly don't know why they try so hard to appeal to outside fans. At the end of the day, it's hockey. if you don't like hockey then it's probably not for you. So make the Skills Comp relays and drills that are hockey related. I just don't understand. Also, as far as the game, I personally never liked the 3v 3 thing. Just do East vs West with normal rules. It's just silly at this point.

Pens got outplayed for the majority of that game but Desmith hung tough and kept them in it. And they were opportunistic and took the win. I like it.

Also, I wanted to touch on Trouba smoking Kahdri the other night. Great hit. Clean too. The immediate reaction to fight needs to stop, in my opinion. If it's within the rules, what is there to police? Clean play. Your guy got hit, which is part of the game. You are mad but play on. I don't like the argument that by having to fight, even if clean, it holds someone accountable for laying a clean hit. That makes no sense to me. You guys agree or have another viewpoint that I am overlooking?

Awesome hit! I miss watching Trouba.
I guess the fight was supposed to "send a message" not to take runs at their star players.
I see the Rags scored on the ensuing power play, and the game went in to OT, where Calgary lost. So their message cost them a point in the standings.

Stadium Series game at Carter-Finley stadium in Raleigh last night was quite a spectacle, full capacity 56k+ fans. Of course I’m biased but it’s the best outdoor NHL event I’ve seen. Canes beat Capitals 4-1.

Did you go? I wanted to watch but I watched the Pens game and then over to the Supercross race. So I missed it. I liked the uniforms for both teams.

Hate to say it but I think the Pens are done this year (maybe longer.) They are just finding a way to lose winnable games, every night. It was nice getting Jarry back but those last 2 goals just can't happen. He's not the only one at fault but just saying. I know we have some games in hand but we can't win a division game, don't get enough secondary scoring, not good defensively, not physical and inconsistent goalie play. The division is just too tough to make a serious run. So I almost would rather be sellers at the deadline. I just don't see them making a run.

Some bad moves made by Hextall. I thought being a former goalie and having played on a tough guy team, goaltending and toughness wouldn't be an issue. Both are. You can see the team run out of steam just about every 3rd period. They go in with a lead. They come out on the losing end. So many older players, although Crosby, Malkin and Letang are doing their part. The consecutive playoff streak means little if you can't seriously contend in the playoffs. I would be ok selling this year and trying to build for the near future, before the big 3 retire.
