I was at this game last night in grand forks and about 9 rows up from where this happened. Not the best quality video but it is the only one out there at this point. Jesse Martin from DU has 3 fractures in his neck. No call initially but after the severity of the injury, Brad Malone was assessed a DQ. Never want to see this kind of thing happen to anyone.

looked like he either elbowed him or put his hands up. I had to get some stitches from getting hit high in the face during a game

DAMN! that was a bullshit hit! He deserved to get DQ'ed for that. I know hockey is brutal but that was uncalled for. If I were Jesse, and could get back, I would beat the ever living shit outta Malone for that.

uhh.. maybe he should have kept his head up.. how can you blame a guy for a head hit when the guys head was almost at waste level..

I opposed illegal hits.. but I hate it when Every screams foul, bc someone set them selves up to get fucked up.. he looked up and had to see the guy coming or atleast see people in the area then looked back down for the puck.. which is big NO NO..

 

I can hardly bring myself to agree with you , but I also don't see this as a DIRTY hit , but more of an unfortunate result of the player's body position when he was hit . He had the puck , and seems to see the checker coming , but seems to reach out or extend for the puck before he is hit .

I hope he is OK .

No one thinks it was a dirty hit, including the player that got hit and the coach for DU. Here is some good reads and reactions to the hit. One cool story is that Martin called Malone and told him he thought it was a clean hit and no hard feelings. Classy kid.
