Human Error cannot be completely eliminated from anything. To push to this end could leave us mired in our reviews.

 

I agree but there are cases where the replay shows 100% that the call on the ice was wrong, and neither team can disagree. I think cases like that should be able to be reviewed and the calls reversed.

 

definitely... the way they now review goals is certainly an improvement. However, I am not sure I like the idea of reviewing plays well after their occurence. Especially when they affect the score.

 

What do you mean by 'well after'? Usually if a call is bad, the crowd, coach, or team will be up in arms right after the call to bring it to the ref's attention. They should review it and make the appropriate call before they resume play. That's my take on it. I dont mean a day after the game or so.

Really? As if after every penalty they don't replay the scene on television a million times and play doesn't come to a stop. Have the refs watch it once and see if they are right. they can easily accomplish that in the time the player walks to the sin bin and play gets started. I'm not saying send it to toronto...

But I can see why you wouldn't want that, as your team has among the best actors in the league

The idea of reviewing every play is stupid and would definitely slow the game

 

It's not every play...and it only takes a few seconds, but to each his own

Who decides which calls get reviewed then ?

 

Like i've said the first time, penalty shot calls, penalties in OT, things that can easily dictate the end of the game. Lucky breaks are part of the game, but in these cases it can put the nail in the coffin

 

So all of those plays are automatically reviewed ? And that won't slow the game ?

 

But I get what you are saying, it is hard to implement a rule like that, because there is just too much grey area, but sometimes its obvious when a call is plain wrong

 

if the nhl were to decide that all penalties are subject to review they are in effect saying "our officials are retarded and are incapable of making the correct call".

Hockey is a fast paced game. It is inevitable that calls will be missed. The quality of current reffing is evidence of this. That said, as a fan I may not like the calls that play against my team, but I also accept that these calls tend to balance out over time. Furthermore, if my beloved team misses the playoffs by one point, I feel it would be pretty ignorant of me to blame the failure of my team on a referee or call. There are 82 games in a season. Reviewing plays does in fact slow the game down.

 

that's not too far from the truth at times. but in seriousness i think it's saying, some calls are easier to be made not during action because it is very easy for an official to not get a good view of it.

cool. ... ... i will add too that watching games on HD TV with the benefit of reviews assists in making refs look incompetent. Some nights they look like they couldn't ref a frickin peewee game...haha
