Press conference in Seattle today at 2pm to announce a new 480 million dollar arena deal for both NBA and NHL.

There will be a team soon. Both leagues are on board, we're hearing the deal wouldn't go if there wasn't a promise of both league offering teams. NHL would be crazy to not put a team in the 12th largest market in the Country wouldn't they? I think at this point we will be the only market with a 100% approved, funded, plan not caught up in litigation.

 

Hopefully not an expansion .

 

No, they've specifically targeted three teams, again reports locally. The only one that has leaked was Phoenix.

the nhl has told quebec city on a few occasions that the league doesn't make "build it and they will come" promises.

 

I can think of about 5-8 teams that would benefit from a move...FLA, Columbus, NYI, NJD, PHX, EDM, Winnipeg, ANA, Tampa.

 

Aparantly the Mayor of Quebec was in Pitt a few weeks ago in Lemieux's box getting the grand tour of their new arena...I would love to see the old Nordique jerseys back.

 

Edmonton and Winnipeg, are you high? benefit how exactly? the oilers have a lengthy waiting list to buy seasons seats.
the jets sold all their season seats in 15 minutes. the oilers will be getting a new building in a few years too.

Edit: I would like to add that both teams suck and they still sell out every game.

Edmonton probably has the best young players in the game , in a couple years they will be a force.

You don't have to go back too far to find the Penguins in the basement and the team in bankruptcy , that city is lucky to still have a franchise .

the teams sucking and the franchises being viable are two very different things.
it wasn't that long ago that the penguins were bottom feeders every year and were first in line to be moved. the big difference between the penguins situation and Edm and Wpg's is that the oilers and jets have fan support/butts in the seats even when their teams suck, penguins didn't have that.

 

They do but the question is will they be able to keep them? Eberle, Hopkins, Hall, yeah those guys are sick but will they stay and can they get decent talent to fill in the gaps? I see Winnipeg having ever worse problems. And they sell out games cuz there's really nothing else to do there. I know they won't move but I think there were far better options for the Thrash than the Peg.

Pens were a different story. They needed a new arena, the city didn't want to pay for one. A casino offered all the cash but the city still rejected it. Lemieux played hardball, he was never going to move the team. Now we have a new arena making tons of $$$ not just off of the Pens but of all the other shows we get now that we never could before.
