Save your breath, pretty sure that guy was a butthurt shark fan, still miffed and baffled how a Polack failed to deliver them onto the promised land.

Apparently the math for Crosby's first big deal, the one he signed for 5 years in the mid late 2000's, and the math for McDavids deal by percentage of a teams cap are almost identical. That is the approach both the agent and team are using to justify the cost. The big difference though is that Pittsburgh had a good indication the cap was going to go up 5%-10% per year when they first signed Crosby beyond his entry level deal. By the start of the deal the percentage of the cap Crosby's deal cost had gone down to under 15% because the cap increase had ate up a good portion of Crosby's deal by percentage of the team cap. The problem I have with the McDavid deal is that the league is likely going to freeze the cap until 2020 when the new CBA will be hashed out. If the cap doesn't move and player salaries continue to rise due to bad deals, odds are McDavid could look like a goat for taking this deal unless the Oilers win a cup before then.

As for the lockout portion of the deal apparently the Oilers will pay McDavid almost purely bonuses for that year so that even if there is a lockout McDavid walks away only the league minimum short of what he would of made during a full normal season. I can't believe that Katz is signing off on eating 12 million dollars worth of salary if shit hits the fan in 2020.

Ya the first Sid deal was actually closer to max than his current, long deal. He basically didn't get a raise (against the cap) when they negotiated the current deal. Also, when Sid first signed his deal, most of the core was still in entry level (or transition) contracts too, so I'm sure that had something to do with it also.

So shocking to hear this on the radio this morning. Had to have been a very quiet battle - as he was doing Oilers events up until a couple weeks ago.
I got to meet him once - at a Red Deer Rebels game. Super nice guy!! So very sad!

Heard Bonino wants 16m over 4 yrs. If so, it won't be in PGH. Sucks but I just don't see it worth it to the Pens to pay for him at that price. He's forever locked into our bottom 6. Brings a lot to the table, big-time playoff performer etc. But still not a top 6 guy here and that would be too much for that spot he's in.

Cap started at 39 mil and has raised almost 100% since. It's not doing that or even close again so the McDavid deal is going to fuck them. Plan and simple. Probably the biggest issue with it is that most other deals like kopitar, toews, Kane, Crosby's new one and Seabrook is that those guy's already won cups. They already did what they had to do. McDavid won a fucking playoff round. Nothing more for the team yet and now they are going to be in a mess sooner than later.
Me as a leaf fan, if Matthew's asked for that I would trade him. Odds are so against you to win with that contract

Kids these days are fucked. Imagine demanding that much and destroying your teams chance at winning a championship at the age of 20 lol

I'll ask you the same as I do @Sterdog , what would you expect to be a reasonable amount for Auston? And to add to that, what do you think he will actually get? I think 10m although I do think he is every bit as valuable as Connor. Also, I heard that Eichel is likely to get something very similar to what Mcdavid got. Pretty crazy. I'm just assuming both guys will get 8yr term, since that is the norm for pretty much any half-decent player, let-alone a megastar.
