Hate to admit it but Nash made a good pick/up with Bonino.

If he wants what McDavid does I would want him traded. It's insane. His agent is taking advantage of his youth and probably filling his head with garbage I think. Their team is going to be cuffed for good now. Look how cuffed LA is now with Kopitar only at 10. Same with the hawks with the two at 10.5. Its just too much for an economy that will never grow

Price signs 8x10.5 aav. Only 17% of the deal is salary so it's basically buyout protected. Better hope he's healthy lol

No more Jerome and that's too bad, he's got at least one more good season left in him and all it would have cost besides the contract is that additional fourth round pick LA would've had to send to Colorado.

Man, Minnesota's being picked apart LA just got defenseman Folin and their backup goalie Darcy Kuemper for 1year deals.

Marleau to leafs. Goodbye Bozak (or JVR). Bozak just paid his signing bonus and is only owed 2 mil for the rest of the year. Not many Centres left on the market so he may fetch something

    Good fit though.

    Komarov-Kadri-Brown
    Martin-Moore-Hyman
Still have Kapanen too from the Kessel trade who played really good in the playoffs. We need a RD now

If they trade one of JVR or Bozak, Nylander can slide in the middle where he will eventually play too and free up space for Kapanen. Leafs are going to be good next year. That Grunstrom kid might even challenge for a spot too. He took off last year in Sweden and the AHL

Haha these rules are so fucked. In one second of signing the leafs already paid Marleau 7 mil signing bonus lol

Apparently Thornton was close too. Would have been even crazier

Not sure what to think about the Price deal. It's tough. I get it that he deserves to probably be the highest paid goalie. But at 30 years old, another 8yrs at that hit is pretty risky. I feel like Montreal's hands were tied on that though.

Well now that the Canucks have Ganger we're definitely winning it all this year

Oh and McDavid is a greedy little fuck and fragile , no dynasty for the Oil

I kind of agree. I thought that was a bit of an odd signing.

Wow. I thought one of you would get it. Matthews, Marner, and Nylander won't get their mega deals for two more years. In the mean time the Leafs have +27 million dollars in cap space that those deals would consume freed up. Basically that trio is as good as what most teams are paying +30 million for. Trading for or signing long term assets right now will endanger the Leafs ability to sign those young stars. However, buying up free agents with that money costs literally nothing. Hence what the Leafs did July 1. Now the Leafs have proven veterans and their future core without sacrificing the ability to keep that future core together in a few years. It's not rocket science, the Leafs are in a unique situation to try and make a stab at a cup right now without trading away or signing away the future cap space the Leafs will need. Lamoriello is playing with house money at the chance for a cup.

Chicago did much the same thing when Kane and Toews were younger. They loaded up on a few valuable short term pieces to stay on top of their underpaid roster. It won them their first cup and left the Hawks with room to play with the cap in the future for another cup. I'm not saying the Leafs will have the same result but why not try what worked in the past in a similar situation?

I mean, I get that. And it sorta makes sense. He's a nice upgrade for Matthews, over Hyman or whatever they decide to do with the lines. But I just felt like their defense was where they needed to improve most, right? I don't think that d group is quite ready for prime time yet either. But I don't follow the Leafs like you guys. Just my opinion. If they make a run, then that would be cool though.

Plus going this direction costs nothing but cash. No future long term cap space is consumed and no draft picks were lost.

There weren't any top 2 D men available in free agency that would sign for a Marleau like deal. You're assuming that the Leafs could of found a top 2 D men without trading away one of their top assets. I'm guessing the price on everyone they wanted in the trade market or from Vegas was too high. If that's the case they made a smart move by passing on those players and instead signing a few overseas prospects plus a veteran from a cup winning team.
