And let's be honest, the Pens just won a cup with a D core that would of ranked worse than the Leafs have right now. They did it by playing D as a team with the right players. I'm guessing that's Babcocks strategy and it plays right into his coaching style.

I'm not assuming anything. I'm just saying there were some FA d-men out there for the same price tag that they gave Marleau that maybe would have made more sense. That D core is mediocre at best. Maybe they couldn't land them, maybe they could have. I am just not a huge fan of that guy at 38yr old with 3 years at 6.25m, plus NMC. It's not the worst thing in the world by any means, just was a bit shocking. It's not like me and @OZ-T are they only ones who thought it was odd either. At any rate, he's a decent player and I'm sure he will help on a few different levels, especially with Auston.

Same price per year maybe, but not a short term. That's key too the Leafs. They don't want a Campbell situation in a few years where they have an overpriced bottom 3 guy preventing them from signing their stars.

Shattenkirk is a powerplay specialist and Alzner wanted term and more money than he's worth. I'm glad the Leafs didn't grab either. Is Marleau an amazing signing by the Leafs? No. However he doesn't hurt their long term plan at all and adds a lot of intangibles. I really like that aspect of the deal.

Def no on Shatts. We all knew he was going to get bank and is totally not worth it. Alzner was only 5yrs and not a horrible hit. I would rather have him at his deal than Marleau. Also, Daley even would've helped and he was reasonable with term and hit. Hainsey is a nice addition but 3 is pushing it for him too (no offense, as I loved him here for the run).

And again Hainsey was for 2 years and hence his price.

Who knows. The Sharks were great for a long time. This might be just a correction for them that they needed to stock back up for the future.

The Hawks clearly didn't think their young role players were going to be up to the task.

The Stars made some major moves this year. Imcluding Radulov now at 6.25 per year over 5 years.

I meant the ones they played with last year. I'm wondering if long term this may be a bit too much of a knee jerk reaction. I'm also wondering if this is the year Toews starts to take the blame for his monster deal.

I get it but do you really think last year was the complete story of what that young group would of been capable next year in the playoffs? I'm not sold on that and now they've traded away a couple of guys I really liked. I'm thinking that, combined with Toews being massively over valued if his production continues to slump, could lead to another disappointing post season.

Yea I think Toews makes his makes his weight dishing and setting up to others like Kane and has a really good relationship with Saad so now that their back together I'm sure both numbers go up. But we need help on D.

10.5 for a setup guy? I guess we shall see, if Kane wins another Hart then I get it.

yea but Painarin was just too good so we got rid of him and Krueger. Toews is not just a Setup guy. You don;t get put on the Canada All star for bring a setup guy. I'm not understanding he moves Bowman is making but hey that's why I'm not employed by the Blackhawks.
