The whole time I kept saying that it will go very similar to 2 years ago. By that I mean that Niemi will get his 20ish starts (ala Jeff Z), Murrary will start (like MAF did that year) and Jarry will be handled similar to how Murray was that year. That means he will start in the AHL but they would like to get him some NHL games, if the opportunity arises. You are picking and choosing what you are listening to.

As far as the Toronto thing, I just said I didn't like the move. I also said that you and Max know Toronto better than I do but it was just my feeling when I saw the Marlaeu signing.

Niemi is perfect, with Murray's sketchy health last year they need the cheapest backup who can handle a lot of games before they need one who handles a few games great

Mcdavid at 12.5 is more acceptable but fuck its gonna get dicey when they start to fit everyone in. Their window might only be a few years now

The only reason I truly care is because this will have some effect on what Matthews wants next summer. Hopefully he'll realise that if he wants other high skill guys to bank him up that he needs to take less money.

I should throw it out there, just in case....
Obviously Pens need Murray to get anywhere, long-term. If he goes down, then I don't really expect neither Jarry or Niemi to do anything like MAF did the last 2 years. Having those 2 was a total luxury, but realistically a team close to the cap usually doesn't have that. I think Niemi is good for what we need him to do, but obviously Murray needs to be there for Pens to make a serious run. Just needing to clarify in case I made it seem that I thought otherwise.

I take very little stock in the 'prediction game' with NHL. All the writers - media - ppl on Forums - all putting their predictions in. The general consensus seems very happy with the deal. But meh.......I just personally like it. I think the team has a good plan moving forward.

Well as an avid hocky fan I figured I'd get in on this thread. Previous fan and follower of the Wings and Sabres due to my childhood love of Hasek, but Tampa Bay is my hometown team, so I've had love for them since before the 04' cup. Current STM and currently attending 30+ games a year, also made it to the Bolts vs Wings game at the Joe last March to see it for the first and last time. Anyways, interesting movement around the league so far in FA, but I must say I love what the Lightning did signing Kunitz and Girardi for some veteran presence. Great balance of veterans and young players make this a strong and well rounded team. Pending health, I think the lightning will make a strong push for the cup. Just have to sign Jonny and Palat. Yzerman is a wizard when it comes to opening up cap space, so with roughly 13mil left this year, I think we can get it done.

I think that team is awesome. I agree, the signings are solid. I def think Tyler Johnson is a big key. Get him locked up and hopefully he can be healthy this upcoming year. If Kuch is anything like he was last year and getting Stammer healthy, that is a very scary team.

Yeah, hopefully they don't have the car wreck of a start they did this year. Well, actually I'd be okay with that as a Leafs fan.

So you're one of the 60 people in attendance. Those Florida arenas are empty and I notice the networks try not to pan the arena when on national TV.

I get it. He's the best player in the league or will be shortly. It's hard not to be excited at his signing on your team. The future is always in motion. This deal won't be judged for several years anyways.

Personally I love forum talk about hockey. Whether I agree or disagree I enjoy the perspectives especially when they play out. I'm a little surprised you're here if you don't, no offense intended.

No offense taken. I enjoy the smack talk during the season. And partake when I feel I have something relevant (or stupid enough) to add - haha.
But the off-season predictions, and team building discussions - not really my thing. That's why I haven't posted much in the past while. But I still read what you, and others, have to say. I just don't get deeply into it.

I took Tampa Bay as my Cup winner in my preseason poll, going into last year lol. Pretty embarrassing when they dont even make playoffs. Stuff like that should teach me to not partake in those discussions, but i cant help myself haha. But i know what you mean.

I've also been doing a seriously complicated location change over the past couple months (moved to Sylvan lake). And my brains are a bit fried these days. Wait.....that might actually help me contribute more here!!! hahaha

I invite you to come to a game with me. Its always nice to see the shock on someones face when they step inside Amalie Arena and realize that Tampa, yes Tampa Bay has a world class hockey venue. There was a reason TBL were ranked as the #1 sports franchise in the US last year, and that is #1 in all of American sports, not just hockey. Sadly, yes the panthers struggle to sell seats, but I assure you that Amalie is packed full every game. And sure sometimes there seats full of opposing fans, but what can you do? Snowbirds head south for the winter and they want to see there team play. As long as they're not a dick we can cheer for our teams and chat about the game.

I can relate on this one, two years in a row I said the Caps would take the cup with all the talent they accumulated. For the Bolts, losing Stamkos and Callahan early was really tough. That veteran presence really set the tone, and then all but fizzled out. Like I said Bolts look good this year, (Then again so did Washington ) if they stay healthy.
