Pens for sure benefit from some of the calls. The 1 whistle was quick, no doubt. Murray never had control.

The other one, it was incidental contact, but regardless, Murray wasn't able to make a save due to being run into. So the way I see it, unless a Pens D pushes him into the net, the Wild player is responsible for not running the goalie over, right? At least that is how I see it, but curious of your view, seeing as you ref hockey and I only play and bitch when I dont get calls :D

One way its taught, keeping in mind the NHL is it's own beast on interpretation, is to switch the role of the players and switch the decision. So if the Pittsburgh D man riding him tried to stop or turn and ended up in the net with a Wild player riding him towards his own goal you'd likely wash out the goal from what I saw (roles reversed). Therefore since the Pens player is riding the Wild player into the goal, as long as an attempt is made to avoid the goalie by the Wild player, it's likely a goal.

It's a call in the NHL that often goes either way depending on the official calling the end. I found it more interesting that after quite a few calls went the Pens way the refs didn't toss them a bone on a grey area call like that. From a game management perspective it would of been a smart move IMHO IMHO without crossing into making up rules like the official did on that penalty on Pittsburgh in front of the net lol.

I just felt like it really wasn't either guy running the other or causing the fall. Just an incidental thing. But I get what you are saying. Regardless, the Pens lucked out by some generous calls. Cool that you got to see the game though. It was a fun game to watch and likely was fun to be at. I was pretty pumped to see Modano at the start of it. Weird because I feel like he's more aligned with the Dallas franchise but obviously he has a position with the Wild, so that is cool for him.

I thought both calls were just enough in the gray area that they could go either way, and knowing Minnesota sports I wasn't surprised when neither got called good goals

The first one was a brutally lazy effort from the zone official. When the play came to the net he stayed in the corner and couldn't see shit. I mean I've been caught on a quick whistle, every player/official/coach has one not go there way at some point, but when it happens because you're in the show and think you can watch the net from the boards that's just unacceptable.

Given what I've watched in the first few weeks I wouldn't be all that surprised if any of the top seven teams in the Atlantic made it into the playoffs. Obviously only five of them at most can but the parity is a lot higher than I expected. The Leafs, Bruins, and Bolts should pull away at some point but as of yet that hasn't been the case.

idk, check the stats. They are not eeking out 1 goal victories that they really had no business winning like they did last year. They are actually leading the league in goal differential this year and playing a solid team game. Also the power play is lethal with the off season additions. I guess we will see.

I'd be the most worried about keeping up that power play number. Teams adapt. No one runs a lethal powerplay all season long.
