Was nice enough out Sunday afternoon to get out and do something. D/S suspension is apart. I love Toyota, we always get along so well when I wrench.

Taking note of other things that need to be addressed as well:
    -Front Brake Job - Pads/Rotors
-Front axles - interior boots are both torn. Replace boots or CVs
-New spindle/CV seal. Found the metal spring ring in pieces when I took the CV out.

A little personal gardening is helping contribute to the mod funds. Enjoying fruits of the labor at the moment. Enough to at least spend about half of what i was spending and instead keep my own $$, buy truck parts

I can't stand those Pro Comp Extreme rims. Their ugly. I had to buy a damn socket just to take them off. Extended end lug nuts too.

Going to take the wheels off and see if I can't sell em.

Pulled the rear wheels this morning.

I knew I had problems before I even put the jack under the rear axle to set it on stands.

Some time ago I noted a leak from the driver rear drum.

Even I was surprised by what hid behind the drum. Rear axle seal is leaking. Slung diff lube all inside the drum. Drums gets hot. Turned everything to sludge.

    Pics to come

The biggest pain of the whole situation was getting the caked in grease brake assembly apart.

Cleaning it up. Pulling the axle, replacing the seal, replacing the brake hardware and shoes is the easy part, to me anyway.

Most people go "Yikes". I go "meh, it's all parts"

The drum didn't look that bad from the pics too

Had half cans of carb cleaner and brake cleaner. Used it up. Carb cleaner worked better.

Rain came in Saturday afternoon. Hasn't left yet.

No sense in keeping the drum. Personal preference. Drums are cheap and I want something a little beefier anyway.

I agree about the drum. They were gummed up, but looked okay. I'm sure there are some grooves not seen in the pic

I was going to upgrade the rear anyway, so now is the time.

Nothing major, just higher performance OE replacement parts. Going to go for high carbon upgrades in pads/shoes and rotors/drums. Be looking for G11H18 metallurgy content.

Pulled DR axle today. The hub/bearing assembly will need replaced. The mess from above and gear lube had started to pool on the pavement under the DR tire from the leak.

Ordered a new bearing, new brake shoes and a brake hardware kit from RockAuto. Will just take the axle shaft and new bearing to either Toyota or a driveline shop I am familiar with to do the swap. Will replace the axle tube seal too.

Hopefully the start of getting it back together.
