The codes and standards that they use are putting safe and reliable vehicles on the road. They go through thousands of crash tests before releasing a vehicle to the public. If a part is designed the wrong way or the safety could be improved upon, they’ll configure the part to make it safer. Then they will do crash testing again until they know they have a safe product to put out. Aftermarket companies do no crash testing. They simply find a process to manufacture their parts to resemble OEM parts. A plastic aftermarket honeycomb grille will make no different in an accident as it is not a structural part. It could however affect TSS and how it operates. Auto cruise systems could function incorrectly if not replaced with OEM and recalibrated afterwards. Not saying they won’t work fine and I’m sure they do for most, but there’s always a chance. In my years of repair experience, you are literally the first person that has said they prefer aftermarket replica parts instead of those from the manufacturer. You posted a screenshot of prices you said you paid, yet the screenshot is of a quote and not an actual invoice, and the price is for an OEM hood, not the aftermarket hood you are selling which is obviously cheaper. Was trying to help you at first but it has turned into me trying to help someone from putting an aftermarket crash part on their vehicle which goes against manufacturer guidelines.

You sir . . . are selling a Grade A knock off Gucci bag and claiming it's better than the real thing. Many of the replies here are positive and meant to help you return it back to where you purchased it from. Like the guy who posted above. . .

Sorry you are taking it the wrong way and I can't fathom the fact you think its better than oem.

I really think Chuck Norris would be disappointed in you.

My take from all of this, is that the hood may be CAPA and not OEM.
Thus OP may have overpaid for what was suppose to have been an OEM hood.
Is selling it as to recoup loses and selling at a lose compared to original bought price.

Assumes other's advices and info are trying to downplay his sale.

However if Toyota pulled a fast one, he technically can claim a full refund, thus having no loses, except for his time.

But OP choses to sell here on TW at a lose... Sooooo

I’m confused. My insurance company is fine with using non OEM parts for things like the bumper mount brackets, absorber, etc.. I would like to think that they have a vested interest in my safety and would not sacrifice that in order to save a few bucks.

    808 ALLDAY!!

I'm a parts manager and use this blue screen daily. Date is way off and says "price quote" like you may have checked with dealer once before. the far right column "PL" is price level and 1 is regular retail cost. I'd like to see actual "invoice" for parts bought rather than a quote. Looks aftermarket to me, just trying to shed light on the situation and shed light for the potential buyer. Not nice to falsely advertise parts to get your money back from an uninformed buyer.

I can make a price quote for retail and then sell it to myself for cost if I wanted but that is BAD karma my friend....

They do not, the use whatever is cheapest for them. Most companies charge extra for an OEM parts rider so you’re guaranteed oem.

I have to argue with insurance companies daily on behalf of the customer just go get paid for procedures during repairs that the manufacturer requires. Seatbelt and airbag inspections after collisions, use if OEM parts etc.

Would a dealership ever sell a customer an aftermarket crash part? I’ve never heard of that personally.

The hood can’t be picked up until Friday since it has to be returned by freight, if someone wants the parts before Friday I think that’s okay.

This thread is only a train wreck if you make it one.
