What is the thae piece under the middle console lid supposed to hold?

It's for a slim jim, just in case you need a snack while driving. Or any other pen/pencil shaped foods

 

Depends on where you're living. In Boulder Colorado it holds your joint, in Portland Oregon it holds your meth pipe.

 

Officially for the tailgate key from when the 3rd gens had two separate keys. One for the door and one for the tailgate. Although others will argue it’s for routing a charging cable as it lines up with the cable hole at the front of the console. Definitely fits pens, tire pressure gauges and slimjims too though
