Some of the times, I don’t even touch the brake pedal at all. But mine is a manual. :p

Gotcha. My first gen had drum brakes in the rear and I didn’t have this issue though.

This would seem to be a thing only with the automatic transmission. With my manual transmission, at a red light, I either have it in neutral or have the clutch depressed. Only a light pressure on the brake is needed to keep the truck from moving.

I used to do that when I drove a tow truck. Just have to be careful not to wear out the clutch.

At busy intersections I bump it up in neutral
Mostly to safe heat buildup in the trans, but would help with this as well

The brake setup overall is different on the manuals too and the offroad/pro vs the sport.

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
Just a note, 2nd gen ORs had the electro-hydraulic brake booster. Required equipment for ATRAC-capable trucks.

I don’t know about Tacoma’s clutch, but I did over 300,000kms over 16 years on my 97 Corolla’s clutch (had to ditch the car because of rust, otherwise it was still running strong). I do use compression going downhill, but not really in traffic to stop at a light. My comment was more that once stopped, if on flat ground, I may not even touch the brake pedal because I’m in neutral (I guess you could do the same on the automatic, but I don’t know if it’s good or not for an automatic transmission to do that).

    Work in progress...
Never noticed a problem with this on my 2017. Not sure about the guy saying he has to put it in neutral or push in the clutch? Is there another way to keep the engine running while stopped with a standard transmission?

    Seriously.
I've never had to press so hard on my brake pedal that it has made me notice just how much force i am applying to the pedal.

I've done that by accident. Just don't become the person that puts their car in park at every red light; that's the worst haha

I would put it in neutral not in park sitting at a red light or in traffic. just saying

I get this sometimes, especially while driving in traffic on i-77 or i40 because of the hills (brake fade?), so I'll just put it in neutral. I hate drum brakes. (I drive an automatic taco :( LOL)
