So awhile ago I was shooting the shit at work with a co-worker & he tells me of the 5 X 500° prime rib cook. My girl loves prime rib so I'm interested. He says check out youtube there's plenty of how to vids.

I used the recipe in this vid:
    https://youtu.be/dAHJZ3aXKzU

I usually do a 3-bone roast and double up the recipe in the vid, here's a pic of one of the first roasts I cooked with this method. 20180528_165346.jpg

On later roasts I chose to salt brine beforehand, anywhere from 24 hrs. to 3 hrs. just depending on how much time I had.20191128_100119.jpg

I also slap some whole bay leaves on the mud rub now which does add a little more time since I have to pull them off after the cook but I do like the way it keeps the bark on the roast.20190602_114608.jpg

I did one for Thanksgiving and it turned out great, I'm planning on smoking some tri-tip for Christmas but I thought I would pass along this cook as I haven't seen it posted here and it is a pretty easy and fool-proof way to make a tasty prime rib.

Have done this many times works great in the oven. My only suggestion is a add a temp probe and check what oven temp is actually at

I ended up going rosemary, thyme, garlic, and butter rub. Smoked for 3 or so hours. Turned out fantastic.
