I have asked for one of these (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V2SIP2E) for Christmas. Will report back if I get it and let you know how it works when I get my 2016. Seems like a nice option that lets you use your own holster on it.

 

You purchase just the clip and can use any holster with this. They do sell universal holsters and there's also a holster/pouch.

Fortunately he doesn't leave his gun in the truck overnight so the vault was empty but it still sucks!

 

I added the holsters to my Wet Okole seat covers. Sits right between my legs out of sight, easy to reach

 

I just leave mine in the holster on me. Of course, if I have pants on I have a gun on 24/7.

Now I'm really considering what I'm gonna do for my long gun car carry. I'm thinking overhead rack with lock.

Obviously OT, but I find myself in a conundrum re: concealed carry (vehicular or otherwise). Unlike 99% of the population, I think for myself and don't blindly ascribe to either "lobby" (i.e. NRA vs. Brady). Most of my decisions are data-driven, not emotional. And here's the data:

In 2014 in the U.S., there were:
1,584 Defensive firearm usage incidents
2,607 Home invasion incidents involving firearms
1,601 Accidental shooting incidents

Note that these incidents are not mutually exclusive, and may be subsets of each other (i.e. an incident may be both a home invasion and defensive). Basically, the data tell me that there is about an equal likelihood that I will need to use the firearm defensively as a member of my family will be accidentally killed/injured by my firearm. My anecdotal observations have sadly supported the data; I knew several people that were accidentally killed by their or a family member's gun, and several that would probably still be alive if they were carrying at the time they were killed.

I know proper training and storage mitigates accidental shooting incidents, but knowing that misplacing my firearm once could kill one of my kids means that the risks currently outweigh the benefits for me (how many times have you forgotten your keys/wallet somewhere? Unless the answer is "never", it could happen with your gun).

There actually is technology available that massively mitigates accidental shooting risks (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armatix_iP1); but ironically, this firearm is not sold in the U.S. because the NRA apparently doesn't actually support my 2nd Amendment right to it (thanks to the wording of an ill-conceived NJ law that NJ's own AG says doesn't apply to the iP1).

Anyway, I won't be able to contribute to this thread (on topic) until the politicians and lobbyists get their heads out of their collective as$es and allow me to buy a firearm that isn't as likely to hurt my family as protect them.

P.S.: I'm watching this product closely as well: http://www.intelligun.com/. But a 1911 isn't really anyone's ideal concealed handgun.

 

While i do agree that most if not all of us will never be in a situation where we would need to draw and use our weapon. I'm a firm believer of better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. With that said I'm so use to having my gun with me just like my wallet or cell I'd be lost without it and would know right away if I forgot it. I've never just forgot it laying on the counter but there is always a first for everything. Also, I have no kids and my g/f has her own and is knowledgable/trained on how to use and fire many weapons. As far as a 1911, I carry one almost daily but it's an EMP with a 3" barrel not a full size.

 

You lost me here. This dumb country boy can ill afford to get into an internet argument with someone in the exalted 1% class of data thinkers...

I do, as it turns out, have two follow up thoughts. A) if you fear that you may misplace your firearm, please do not carry. B) not only is my 3" 1911 my ideal concealed handgun, it's my only handgun. Carry one gun, train with one gun, be ready with one gun. Efficiency in training.

 

So, if you knew you weren't going to contribute to the discussion, why'd you bother to post your obvious anti-gun rhetoric? You thought that important enough to post. If you don't feel comfortable owning a gun - don't. It's that simple.

The KEY to everything is proper training, proper safeguards, and proper use. Personally, I'd rather have them and not need them, than need them and not have them and I certainly don't need the government to tell me what I should or shouldn't own. Law enforcement will rarely, if ever, make it to your defense in a situation requiring the use of force.

I've read about car-jackings and home invasions in my local area to know they do happen, even if rare. I'd rather be able to defend myself and my family than just cower in a corner and pi$$ myself.

 

I'm not anti-gun; I own a rifle and 12 gauge, but it's easy to keep those locked away from the kids. Concealed carry is a different beast, and if you have kids you know that kids introduce a crapstorm of uncertainty into your daily routine. It's easy to say that a concealed handgun will always be either holstered or locked up, but my daughter steals my cell phone out of my pocket without me realizing at least once a week; you simply can't train/prepare yourself into a state where your own concealed handgun isn't a threat to your kids.

I want to carry a concealed handgun, but not one that is as likely to kill my kids as defend them (and the data say that is the case). And no, I don't believe that I am a superman that will always be 100% in control of everything at all times; the world is too chaotic for that. So I want to purchase a handgun that has the technology that ensures only I can discharge it, but the NRA lobbyists don't believe the 2nd Amendment endows me with that right. I don't want to force you to buy a smart gun, I just want to buy one for me.

I'm truly shocked that anyone could read what I wrote and interpret it as "he anti-gun nut, he dumb". I am literally asking for more guns.

P.S.-After my post, I researched 1911 for concealed carry, and I was surprised to find it does have quite a following for that purpose. So mea culpa. Personally, there is no way I could strap 3+lb anywhere on my person and still be able to function in my daily routine, but to each his own.

 

I was able to squeeze a Keltec KSG in the underseat bins.

 

I'm well trained with and very knowledgable about many different firearms, and my carry weapon of choice is my Nighthawk 1911. Second is my Sig P238, which is basically a really small 1911.

 

My apologies then. Now, I'm just kinda dumbfounded as to why you'd post what you did if you're asking for more guns.

I didn't own guns until 2012 - you can only imagine why I bought one (it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why, but I won't get into the politics of it), but it wasn't an uninformed decision, I decided, if I was going to own one, I'd get training and the whole 9-yards, which I did. None of us can be 100% sure that if the situation arises that we'll be able to do what is necessary to defend ourselves or our loved ones. I'd like to think that if it comes down to me or a family member or some thug or terroris...., I'll stop there, I think y'all get the drift.

I hope your ability to neutralize threats is more accurate than your ability to interpret the written word. I'll break my original post down into a numbered list for you:
1. I want to concealed carry to protect my family
2. But the data show that the concealed firearm is as likely to injure my kids as defend them
3. I want to purchase a "smart gun" to mitigate the risks
4. NRA lobbyists have blocked my right to purchase the firearm of my choice.

Speaking as a human. If you think you are 100% infallible, you are wrong. The owners of the guns used in those 1,600 accidental shootings last year probably all thought their training and diligence eliminated the risks, but they were wrong.

A fingerprint reader/proximity ring/etc would give me sufficient confidence that my daughters would not be harmed by my handgun. I think the tide is turning re: smart guns, but the NRA is fighting them tooth and nail. I don't want to force them on anyone; my interpretation of the cold, hard facts is that a smart gun would improve my family's safety, while a regular handgun would not.
