Hey Josh....are those CONDOMS in the pocket behind your gun....???? Did you just put those there to see if anybody notices, or do you really carry that many at a time...??? Must have been a boy scout, eh..."ALWAYS BE PREPARED"....!!

Caring a gun is dangerous. You should not have one in your truck.

I got everything in your post the first time except for the part that you were interested in concealed carry for yourself. There is nothing there to indicate that other than the link to the intelligent gun. I can read and comprehend, I just don't read minds.

Is the "intelligent gun" ready for prime time? Is it 100% reliable? I've not done any research on it, but as with anything with electronics, I'm sure it's subject to more failures than a mechanically operated gun. I wasn't aware the NRA was blocking it. I know the NRA is against mandatory, cost-prohibitive technologies in firearms as it precludes people of lower income levels from owning them. Personally, I wouldn't trust it, but that's just my opinion, but then again, I carry a Glock with no safety except for the one between my ears. I also wouldn't trust a firearm with electronics because there is a potential for an electronically activated "kill switch" by the manufacturer, whether that's their choice, or government mandated, then you have a very expensive paperweight. You may be perfectly comfortable with that.

Again, this is all a matter of personal preference and what you deem as "safe".

I want to see one study that shows this.

Data show that the concealed firearm is as likely to injure my kids as defend them

Funny how the studies I read say the complete opposite. That 70% of the times it's either your wife or kids using the gun to defend your ass.

The adult male is the largest threat to any criminal. That's why they attack the men first. As your fighting off the guy it's other family members who go get the gun.

Train your family to know how to use and when to.

Technology is advancing quickly, but the NRA is vehemently fighting smart guns, so progress toward actual retail products is quite slow. All that stuff you mention is the aforementioned political rhetoric that has doomed smart guns in the U.S. I don't want more laws or regulations or kill switches or anything; I just want a gun that requires my fingerprint/ring/whatever to discharge, because my interpretation of the data is that said feature would reduce/eliminate the likelihood of accidental injury while maintaining the purpose of the weapon.

If you carry, it's probably because you are realistic about the risks in our world. So am I, but I don't choose to disregard the accidental injury risks because of some assumption that training and diligence can 100% eliminate them.

    According to the CDC:

    http://webappa.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/nfirates2001.html

There were 16,864 unintentional firearm injuries in 2013. No statistics are available on unicorn-related injuries.

There is nothing that can "100% eliminate them" - not even choosing not to carry. If your looking for a 100% guarantee, you will never find it. That being said... I respect your decision to not carry even though I don't agree with your reasoning.

I get it and you absolutely should have the choice - it (electronically "locked" firearms) should not, however, be mandated. I'm not sure why the NRA would block these other than trying to prevent them from becoming mandated. Again, I'm not interested in these types of weapons, because to me, there is just more to fail and the last thing you need when you pull the trigger is to hear the dreaded "click"!

    Any way YOU slice it...

Do you know the difference between accidents and negligent acts/behavior, and how each is mitigated.
I think what it comes down to is, 'know thyself...'

The only way Smart Guns are coming to market is if they're forced upon gun owner's through legislation. That is what the NRA fights.

    Exactly.

People need to keep in mind at all times that news agencies are a BUSINESS, not a public service. They're in the business of selling advertising, so the more juicy the news seems, the better the traffic and click-thrus.

Sorry for getting off topic. I just hate news networks.

My daughter can't unlock my phone. I've also never failed to unlock my phone in the first attempt (Nexus5X with fingerprint reader). Apply the same tech to a "smart gun", and I'd be satisfied carrying a weapon with that risk profile. I'm just mad some lobbyists and braindead politicians won't ever let it happen.

Why? Why can't a market entity sell smart guns of their own volition? There is clearly a demand (myself included). NRA fighting the free market?

I know the answer, it's because they think if smart guns are available, nimrod politicians will "force them down our throats". But that would require our legislative branch actually doing something, which they haven't done for decades (for better or worse, I don't know). In the meantime, the NRA should support the sale of any and all firearms as protected by the Second Amendment.

And there is a stupid law on the books in NJ that mandates if a "smart gun" is sold anywhere retail in the country, then all guns in NJ must have the fairy dust technology that the movies have idiots tricked into thinking exists in a viable product/form. There is a 22lr pistol ready for market (Armatix), but no one will sell it and who wants a $$$ .22lr pistol for self defense. I have no interest in such products as I'm sure most other gun owners don't. Most businesses make what the customer wants to stay in business. The NRA is a lobby fighting for what its members want, why shouldn't they fight against this crap?

Read the Wiki I linked in my first post; NJ's own AG said the law doesn't apply to the Armatix, but the NRA still threatens anyone that tries to sell that gun (or any other smart gun) in the U.S. I agree that weapon isn't the panacea, but I'd pay ~$1500 for a P220 Carry (or similarly-sized .45ACP) with the fingerprint reader from the new Google Nexus devices.

Surely you are aware that NJ law says that within 3 years of a smart gun's introduction, all firearms sold in NJ would have to be smart guns. So, contrary to your indications otherwise, you very much want to force them on everyone.

This is why I'm dead set against this feature on a gun. I've had my phones fingerprint reader fail many times for stupid reasons. One time my hands were wet, failed to read it another they were a little dirty from work, failed again. No way in hell I'm trusting my life with this stupid reader shit on my gun! Sorry,I don't work at a desk job where my hands are clean and shiny all day.
