Not a LEO, but I know some states require you to notify them you are armed if you get pulled over.

When I get pulled, I always hand them my license and permit. They ask where the weapon is and that's usually the end of it. Never been issued a citation.

When I get pulled over locally and I am not carrying, they ask me why the hell not! (Note: I know most of them pretty well)

I'd rather be told than find it by accident, but unless you're in a duty to notify state (I believe there are 7 or 8) you aren't legally required to do so. When someone tells me my general response (provided they aren't some flavor of shithead) is "Don't show me yours and I won't show you mine." People seem to understand.

If you're friend would rather not know about a weapon in the vehicle he pulls over so he doesn't have to do paperwork he has no business being a cop. That's just retarded.

I agree, their name labels them as anti-gun. Guns are inanimate objects, people cause violence not inanimate objects.

The classic study that showed guns in homes were as likely to injure family members as be used for defense turns out to have included mostly criminals. This study has long been discredited.

I read a review of this gun. It costs $1700 for a .22lr. The reviewer could not fire even one 10 round magazine without a malfunction. No stores stock it because no one in their right mind would buy one. .22 lr isn't adaquate for defense.

Law enforcement officers are in danger of having their guns taken and used against them so they would benefit from a "smart" gun only they could fire. So far no law enforcement agency has shown interest in available "smart" guns because they are not dependable. When law enforcement starts adopting them I'll be convinced they are useful. Note that the NJ law exempts law enforcement from being forced to buy only "smart" guns. I see this as evidence that the law is just another unamerican restriction of our rights.

I file "accidental shootings" under "natural selection".

Instead of fancy gimick "smart guns", ever thought of something as simple as teaching your kids firearm safety? Take your little ones shooting, also hunting if possible.

+1. Starting at age 3 or 4 with a Red Rider, we learned how to safely handle a gun, how to load it, clear it, etc. We had it drilled in us that it wasn't a toy.

For my 7th birthday, I received a Remington Speedmaster 22. It stayed loaded in the corner of my room till I moved out. A loaded 12 guage sat behind the back door downstairs. Everything else was in an unlocked cabinet with the ammo beside them. And guess what? Every member of my family survived without injury.

The atmosphere a kid is surrounded by is far more dangerous than a weapon.

This is a topic that we are never all going to agree on. Personally, I carry and am well trained. Training with a competency element should be REQUIRED to own/carry a gun. Long or short. We all know someone that has guns who we think probably shouldn't. And... We all know people who are well trained and responsible. My brother is a cop and the stories he tells make me cringe. To each their own. Carry on. (pun intended)
