3rd gen sr 4wd has a steel front skid plate. Even the 4g TRDs have plastic cardboard front skid. How can you justify that for 45-50k vs the 37 and change out the door no trade no money down I paid for my 23 brand spankin.

I actually think it's pretty stupid. I have zero issue with the fact that my Tacoma is a Toyota--The heritage grill looks great on the truck. I had to laugh at your "I'm a realist" statement. A realist would base their perspectives on "real" information. You seem to be under the false impression that every new Tacoma is priced at $60,000. Luckily there are people in the forums that are able to educate you by letting you know that you can buy a new, MUCH improved in EVERY respect 4th gen model at little more than half of that. Not bad for a "luxury" truck--huh? Knowledge is power--you're welcome:)

I've been helping my buddy price out an SR5 and the MSRP on one is almost $43k. Our '22 TRDORP Manual was the same MSRP so I get what all the bitching is about!

Seriously? A skid plate? The newer generation has a boxed steel frame, upgraded braking system, more powerful engine, upgraded transmission, completely redesigned interior and exterior with introduction of Toyota's latest tech and safety systems.
Those things are more important than what an easily replaceable skid plate is made out of..........lol.........

Great another let’s bash 4th gen Tacomas by the poors. Just stay in your lane and you will be happier 3rd gen ( it’s paid off Tacoma owners ).

It must be region dependent--You really can find well equipped TRD OR models in the midwest for $43k all day long. A truck like the attached will do everything 95% of buyers need it to do. I understand it's not a Pro model like your 2022, but it is FAR from the "out of reach $60,000 price point" that some people believe all Tacomas are currently at.

When I bought from Longo a few months ago, I got $5000 off the TSRP. So here’s one you could get for $40k.

do you ever get tired of hating a vehicle you don’t want while also knowing nothing about it?

Seriously?? The dealer ask for TRD OR and Sports is $42-43k before you even walk through their door. Hardly the $60k price point you are quoting bud......

Our '22 was a Premium not a Pro, my point was a loaded TRD Off Road Premium loaded up was the same as a 4th gen SR5 with NO options. I also agree with what you said my '24 Tacoma was only $50k which I purchased for $47k and it's a Hybrid TRD Off Road with Big screen, heated seats, & all weather liners.

Aren’t these $40k trd off roads stripped with very minimal options?

The only option they really lack compared to the 3rd gen is standard power seat and power sliding rear window.

My local dealer (which is a volume seller) has more Tacomas and Tundras than any other vehicle several times over. I went to look at the 4Runner and complained to the sales guy about how they cost more now and were stripped of standard power seats. He pointed to the huge inventory of 4th gen’s and said “yeah, they did that to the Tacoma too and you see how well that is working out”

Power this and that is what many auto buyers like. Hard to say if the lack of a standard power seat is why new Tacomas are sitting on a lot. Monthly sales numbers aren't bad for the Tacoma, I've never compared Tacoma numbers to high volume sales vehicles like Rav4. I'd like to know the monthly allocations sales vs what is sold on the lot. I don't think there's a strong market for 50k midsize trucks right now. I think most people don't want to pay over 40k, sure upper trims and halos all sell but I only see a few ZR2s compared to base Colorados on the road. Now to counter my own point that auto buyers like power and tech, that probably isn't as true with your conventional midsize buyer.

    Edit

    When I say 40k I mean OTD!

Sounds like the sales guy at your "volume seller" needs a different line of work. Toyota is selling the absolute hell out of Tacomas.

    Data don't lie.
